Dr. Seuss museum will replace a mural featuring a Chinese character with chopsticks and a 'pointed hat' after authors threatened to boycott event over the 'jarring racial stereotype'

Three authors said they would boycott event in Springfield, Massachusetts
Chinaman character is from 'And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street'
Mo Willems, Mike Curato and Lisa Yee declined the invitation to the museum's inaugural Children's Literature Festival, which was originally set for October 14
In light of this issue the museum has now cancelled the festival altogether

On one hand I'm thinking this is not necessary, but I guess if we are now getting rid of anything that hints at a racial characteristic, it's right in line. What do you think?

I think it was the style of the time... and I think that the daily mail gets publications by whipping up anger and exasperation. If it is in the daily mail, I take it with a pound or two of salt. They are not always known for their accuracy.

all it shows is how stupid we are becoming as a society.

There were others reporting it as well, I just picked that one.

I dunno. It appears at least one of these authors have even more jarringly insensitive stereotypes in their work published in 2006, whereas the art we're to be upset by was published in 1937.

I've never heard of any of these people before, and Dr. Seuss specifically taught me it's wrong to judge based on superficial differences (Starbelly Sneeches,) so why should I think these folks are more than attention hungry wannabes?

Nice catch! Yes, I'm convinced now it's for the attention.

There is no way to stop a handful of morons, like these 3 nobody authors, from being offended and throwing a fit. The real problem is that people capitulate to this sort of absurdity. The proper response to these 3 refusing to attend the museum is not to remove the mural but to say 'fine, don't come.'
