The glaring hypocrisy of Mike Pence... stooge of Trump

So, VP Mike Pence makes a statement by leaving a game where some players kneel in protest during the national anthem. Which means he was he was engaging in a peaceful protest to protest the peaceful protest... which is hilarious in its own irony...

In a tweet afterward he says...

“I left today’s Colts game because @POTUS and I will not dignify any event that disrespects our soldiers, our Flag, or our National Anthem…While everyone is entitled to their own opinions, I don’t think it’s too much to ask NFL players to respect the Flag and our National Anthem.”

Pence walks out of an NFL game and sports journalists lose their collective minds | Fox News

Emphasis in red mine.
Now, as much as I dislike his politics, he's not a stupid man. He's actually quite intelligent. So, that makes his defense of his protest even more ironic. Let me see if I understand this correctly... he will not dignify disrespect to our soldiers, yet he has attached himself to a President who, during his campaign, went out of his way to disparage and disrespect a national hero (McCain) and the family of a fallen soldier (Khan family). He's attached himself to a man who has no respect whatsoever for our soldiers, and who is quite willing to throw any of them under the bus for his own political gain.

It's obvious to anyone with even an ounce of objectivity that Mr Pence's protests were for show only, and that he was throwing a bone to his gullible base.

Pence was forced to swear an oath of personal loyalty. The President neutered Pence, he no longer has agency. Anything he does is for show. I hope the oath was worth it to him.

Pence is perhaps eyeing a presidential run himself one day. I mean, who wouldn't be, right?

He's in a precarious position considering Trump. Does Trump resign in disgrace? Does he ever climb out of the hole? Does he get his ass whipped in 2020? Does he win re-election?

All of this is possible with Trump, he's that unpredictable.

But, to the politically initiated, yes, Pence is a giant hypocrite, for the reasons you gave above, as well as, him protesting at a football game. When "politics doesn't belong in football" is a primary argument we hear belted from the Budweiser bungalos of America.

I didn't hear about the oath. I like Pence but it looks like Trump said walk out and Pence said yes sir.

Given that he walked out, with or without the President's orders, during the national anthem, one could say (and some prominent people have), he was using the anthem for inappropriate political protest. A charge of hypocrisy in of itself.

The hypocrisy charges are too much for me to care about. As far as I can tell, this whole damned thing has been twisted several different layers of hypocrisy to boycotts, counter-boycotts, counter-counter boycotts, counter-counter-counter boycotts and so on. As such, that's not something I would actually levy against him, so much as shameless pandering to the President's fragile ego.

a national hero (McCain).
You mean the guy who cheated on and then abandoned his crippled wife so that he could marry an heiress and move up the socialite ladder of Arizona politics? Or are you referring to the guy who fatuously stumbled into the Keating 5 scandal like a clownish oaf? Oh clearly you must mean the ogre who tried to destroy the career of and then imprison the journalist who investigated McCain's dopehead debutante wife: a wife who was stealing drugs from a charity to fuel her habit-what a classy hero. Oh of course. What was I thinking...you mean the swell guy who lied repeatedly to his constituent and the people of America so that we could throw away the lives of thousands of American soldiers so that he could brag about murdering brown people. Special mention goes to his doltish escapades while travelling through that Iraqi market and requiring over 250 military escorts so that he could claim "shopping in Iraq is just like anywhere in America": all said while wearing a bullet proof vest. Oh me, oh my, you must mean the hero who didn't get kicked out of the military like he rightfully should have been because of who his father and grandfather were? Is that the hero you're talking about? Oh no, you mean that ****-stain McCain? The piece of garbage who refused to give MLK jr a holiday in his state because McCain's one of the most racist people in senatorial history. Please don't use the word "hero" in reference to McCain. It's truly an insult to people who care about America.

Perhaps the government should pay Pence to observe the anthem, like it does the NFL.

It is just as likely that Trump simply took credit for Pences actions despite not doing anything of the sort.

I'd bet money on it.

Just cite the garbage CT alt-right blogs so we can dismiss your pathetic BS. Regurgitating that crap as if it's your own is pathetic.

I'm cool with what he did

Have any of you considered he believes what the NFL players are doing is wrong? That its disrespectful?

That he was good friends and a big fan of Peyton Manning and wanted to be there for the ceremony in his home state?

You demand that the players opinions be heard and respected by you care nothing for the opinion of the Vice President?

Seems to be a lot of group think and echo chamber nonsense.

That might be true, Jet, but we won't know unless Pence says so and I don't think he will say so.

OC, I don't say Pence is insincere but he must have suspected the players would do that and he must have planned to walk out. Why did he bother to go? That's why some people say it was staged.

I agree the players are wrong but I think they have the right to be wrong as silly as that sounds.

Maybe so, but it would mean something if he hadn't willfully attached himself to a person who disrespects service people to such an extent as to be gleeful about it.

They have a right to be incorrect, Pence has a right to show his disagreement with it.

That is an excuse to allow yourself to disagree with anything he says and is an emotionally stunted argument.

Pence is a politician's politician. Whatever he does or says does not have to make sense to anyone except for his base.

You can consider that, but you should discard it as "absurd", to put it nicely. It misses the entire point (entirely).

1. he believes peaceful protest is wrong, so he peacefully protests? (Sadly, he didn't actually protest, see #3 below)
2. He's there like many of the fans, to honor Peyton Manning's career, so he honors him by turning his honoring into a political stunt, and walking out?
3. Pence only attended at the request of Trump, in order to create public spectacle (his typical way of operating). And he protested by *leaving*. In contrast, the players protest with a kneel, and then resume the game they are there to play...

No, I don't consider what you wrote to be anything but absurd.

1. Its not his workplace.
2. The players are just as responsible for that.
3. That isn't known. A lot of media outlets are claiming it, its not a fact.

I consider what you wrote to be uninformed bull**** based on assumptions from the media echo chamber circle jerk.

His sincerity went out the window with this gesture.

To me it just seems like wasting tax money to go and leave to just make a political point if he knew all along.

He's been a huge Manning fan for a long time. I'm skeptical that's all it is.
