Activists specialize in making demands, usually in a specific area of policy, and they seek to influence the political culture and move office holders toward fulfilling them. To further these goals, activists work to draw attention to themselves and raise money to pay for lobbying. Both are achieved by the generous deployment of hype..

That's the way activists think and operate. It's incredibly effective, and it's becoming more so with every passing year. Back in the 1990s and 2000s, for example, significant gun control measures and abortion restrictions could pass on at least a somewhat bipartisan basis. But not today — and the change is to a significant extent because of the influence of activists. (And no, news that the NRA is open to allowing the baby-step of regulating "bump stocks" in the wake of the Las Vegas massacre doesn't count as a significant change in direction.)

But their influence isn't only felt in the halls of Congress. Activists have also changed the way that growing numbers of Americans think about political reality itself.

These activists are well within their rights to make their case. But it falls to the rest of us to treat such claims with skepticism, suspecting that they function as the political equivalent of misleading ad copy that deploys hype and exaggeration to sell a defective product to an easily manipulated population of democratic citizens.

And this go OH SO MUCH worse when journalists decided to become activists, generally to become guides to UTOPIA. It is time for a return of the educated adults, what ever number of us are still around, it is time to make a stand against the overly emotional impulsive willfulness of twits.....of which there is a sea, most alarming in the Elite Class.

I have never argued against having an Elite Class, I have argued against them being incompetent immoral lazy abusers.

Activism is good for America because people are willing to be the change they wish to see.

Which we had for decades as Washington rotted.....

But see Washington is still getting worse, the worst it has been since the Civil War now, that is a big flaw in your argument.

For the most part yes. It was activism that helped to remove institutionalized racism, get the US out of an otherwise endless war in Vietnam and may some day end the "war on drugs" which creates violent street gangs running billion dollar industries.

See we let the feminists get away with relabeling pretty damn near every sexual slight against women real or imagined "Sexual Assault", just massively expanding the definition as they destroy the functionality of language as they drive us all towards their political goals like cattle, so now our minders take up the trick over and over again.

I agree, activism is alarming. Shows like Scandal, Quantico, Designated Survivor, Late Night Show activists, not to mention BLM, AntiFa must be discussed as well as the NRA.

i would argue that partisan gerrymandering is significantly warping American democracy. i hope that the SCOTUS agrees, but i'm not confident that this will be the case.
