Would the coverage/response be different if the Vegas shooter had shot up the concert featuring Lorde and Chance the Rapper?

Thank god it wasn't.

Can you imagine the increased racial tension that would have fostered?

Yes, which is your clue that we as a people are deep into the weeds.

There's someone out there that goes by "Chance the Rapper"?

I would hope not. I don't see what musical preference should have to do with how we cover the loss of American lives.

white man kills white people = no racial component = not as big news. Black->black same same.

White man kills black folks.... oh hell, the ****storm is coming....

The media would have had a field day sensationalizing the difference in skin color of the shooter vs. the victims.

If the shooter was black and the victims were mostly black it would still be blamed on racism.

Had this been a white male targeting young black kids, it would have resulted in riots by BLM and the like. Had it been a black male targeting white kids, it would been all about the poor shooter's lack of access to mental health resources. Had it been a black male targeting black kids, it would have been played down to the extreme.

Hmmm, I thought Lorde's base had a lot of white women? I don't know who the other guy is, though.

I'd still wait to find out what the actual motive is before I'd make that assumption.

But to be fair, the Vegas shooter HAS been a media **** storm. Most deaths from a single perp in modern American history.

I don't know about that. When the body count gets up into the double digits you're going to get a lot of coverage no matter what.

It's so that he doesn't get confused with Chance the Monopoly game card

The kneeling NFL players would immediately declare themselves vindicated while President Trump would be receiving total blame for the event for sewing the seeds of hate. The black caucus would demand impeachment proceedings the following day. Everyone who voted for Trump would be declared a racist.(oh wait, that already happened. forget that last one.

I don't know from Lorde. Figuring the Rapper would have had a mixed audience with a lotta black folks.

Bad as its been, if anyone had been able to infer a racial component, the ****storm would last months.

To be fair, any artist with a primarily young pop culture crowd is inherently going to be pretty mixed. Over 40% of Millenials and half of Gen Z/iGen (the oldest of whom are now late teens) are non-white or mixed race.

Which isn't to say there's no diversity in the country crowd, but they lean older, which is more clearly white-majority demographic.

There would have been just as much coverage but people would have felt more certain (even if incorrectly) about the motive.

Right, I mean look at Hootie.

 Greatest post. And so funny because that's what would have happened too.

Yeah. There would be a slew of race baiting rhetoric.

Had it been a Muslim the haters would be out in full force.

Whenever there is a terror related incident, all Muslims are continually being asked/expected to apologise and condemn terrorism acts that they have absolutely nothing to do with. When they do apologise, and they should never have to apologise for something they had absolutely nothing to do with to begin with, it's never enough for some people.

Do those same clowns think every single gun owner in America should have to apologise whenever someone is killed by a firearm? Have the NRA come out and apologised for the actions of the shooter? Are they asking why not?

I've not seen one comment suggesting that. If I did, I'd suggest the same thing that I do when someone starts their Muslims crap. Off course not.

****ing hypocrites and their different standards when it comes to an entire group of people they don't like.
