how the "bump Stock" makes the good man with a gun out of date!

Actually I was in the military and once belonged to the NRA, so I do know something about guns.

Doesn't look too difficult to me. Little (thin) woman firing at a vehicle as a target. And old man hitting jugs smaller than a college age woman. No, you're not hitting bottle caps and you might miss a soda can sitting on a fence post. But when you enter a room with one of these weapons your actual target ought be the space of the room itself, with the objective to cover the humans in it with bullets. You would be wasting time and misusing the weapon to be seeking hearts shots or center chest shots. Instead, you just want to put as many rounds down as possible, allowing them to do the work of penetrating and tearing up as much flesh as possible.

It's hard to hold a M-16 on target unloading a full mag. Does anyone here know a person that can?

Never fired any other full auto weapon other than the ships "fixed" .50 Cal

yeah I can but I have the sling deployed and I am leaning into the weapon substantially. but yeah most people cannot

so what is the excuse for some of the really ignorant comments you have made

here is the typical leftwing view on automatic weapons

Nevada should be ashamed that they allow these retrofits to be sold. So wrong.

tell us why they should have been banned before this incident (or for more rational people-why they should be banned just because one case of a premeditated killing used them)

If one is not licensed to own automatic weapons, these kits should never have been approved by ATF. Orrrr, the kits themselves should be regulated every bit as much as AW’s themselves.

My printing company bought 500 sheets of rag paper. We received a visit from the FBI, I think it was, because that’s the exact paper that, at the time, was used to counterfeit money. I wasn’t offended. Thought it was a most interesting encounter.

Turtle, you are the most informed firearm supporter on this board. Do you have any suggestions on how to TRY to stop this from ever happening again? Seriously. Or do you think our Second Amendment just means that we have to accept the occasional mass shooting while doing nothing?

1) one should not need a LICENSE to own an automatic weapon. if its a firearm, anyone with a clean record and of age should be able to buy one. the entire NFA is a fraudulent rape of the second and tenth amendments

2) bump fire does nothing to change the mechanism of a semi auto. Its amazing how hard that is for people to understand. Maybe they should cease blathering about this until they actually understand what they are talking about.

3) unless you lock everyone up you cannot stop this from happening again. someone worth ten million dollars and who has two planes and has no record is not subject of pro-active measures to stop an attack like this. and besides, if body count was his main goal, a plain loaded with high octane fuel flown into the crowd at 200 MPH would have made the massacre of the other day pale in comparison

Bump doesn’t change the mechanism which, as I understand it, is why it’s legal. But there’s no argument that I’d DOES turn a semi into a full, right!

We often hear that the way to stop a bad guy with gun is a good guy with a gun, but I think that is no longer true. I think of one example, the Virginia Tech shooting. A man with a gun walks into a room filled with students and starts shooting. When that happened I heard some of my friends who own guns say that if someone in that room had a gun they could have stopped the shooter. They might, and I mean might have been able to do so. Now think of the same scenario with the shooter having a gun with a bump stock. Within seconds the whole room would have been filled with dead bodies and no one alive to shoot back. This is especially true if the person has a large magazine. And I will bet that many will talk about doing away with these kind of add ons to weapons to take them semi to fully automatic weapons, but nothing will happen.

Bump-fire stock had nothing to do with that. It was the 400 meter range and elevation of the shooter.

A rare and unusual situation. The man who can hit anything at 400m with a concealed-carry handgun is practically non-existent.

no it does not change it into a full auto

you can legally own a gatling gun as long as its hand cranked because under the law automatic is not defined as how fast the gun fires but whether it is capable of shooting more than one round with ONE pull of the trigger

manually crank fired gatling guns shoot faster than semi autos but they are not AUTOMATIC WEAPONS UNLESS you put a motor on them meaning pushing a button once means MULTIPLE rounds being fired.

the law says nothing how fast you can fire the weapon but rather the mechanism. you can simulate slow slow RPM automatic weapons fire with cranks, with bump fire stocks and with QUICK FINGERS. and if you hold a normal rifle loosely you can shoot a semi just as fast

watch this

8 shots in a second means 8x60 per minute = 480 rounds a minute rate of fire which is faster than the US M3 Grease gun in many cases. is that "automatic weapons fire? of course not, he is pulling the trigger each time

I've got a buddy, who spent most of the past decade in the middle east with the military, who can fire a semi-auto AR so fast you'd think it was full auto. AND put almost every round on target at a reasonable range.

Wow. That is absolutely unbelievable. Thank you for this. Holy Moly.

while this weapon is a "machine gun" it is not an automatic weapon. it has a been legal to own in the USA without NFA nonsense since it was first invented near the end of the civil war.

his main talent is the reload, several other revolver shooters can come close to this. most of us who are Class A or higher USPSA shooters can shoot 8 shots in under 2 seconds. Believe it or not a revolver-for a short sprint, can be fired faster than a semi auto pistol for the same reason that in the old days of typewriters, the speed records were set with manuals since the operator could slap the slide back faster than the smith coronas electrics worked
