The National Football League's recent national anthem protests have created a stir across the country.
Anheuser-Busch is wondering how much this issue matters to their patrons.
An ESPN article in November 2015 announced Anheuser-Busch's $1.5 billion sponsorship commitment with the NFL through 2022 as the league's official beer sponsor.
Apparently, the beer company is rethinking their status with the NFL after multiple calls have flooded their consumer hotline.

If you call (800) DIAL BUD or (800) 342-5283, a recording offers several options with option 1 directly referencing the NFL sponsorship.
No one in the MSM is reporting this, but I've seen it. Anyone else?

They should seek feedback on their crap beer instead.

OK, so I called and expressed my opinion thru Option 1 as American suggested. This is an opportunity to do more than write on a message board. People on both sides of the issue have an opportunity to leave a message. We don’t often get that kind of opportunity.

American, thank you.

Since they sell a bazillion cans of it everyday, they have they're feedback.

Yup, mass produced swill can sell. McDonald's does a lot of business too, wouldn't necessarily call it good cuisine.

lol

Despite them taking a summer to name their beer "America", Anheuser-Busch is owned by a Belgium company called InBev. It's not like they have a dog in this fight. But they are desperate for their branding of being USA! USA! USA!

Yeah, about their only "product" is being bought and buying smaller breweries that know what they are doing, lol.

Of all the American piss beers, Anheuser Bush is among the worst.

I like American piss-water beer so no big deal to me there. But all these smaller breweries... you can see their desire is to grow rally fast so that you get on InBev's radar and they buy you out which is what they are doing A LOT.

They also make dozens of other brands. Something for everybody.

There's nothing wrong with American piss beer, that's just the category it falls into. I have some favored brands of American piss beer as well. But of all the American piss beers out there, Bush is one of the worst.

I have. I've responded. Takes a few minutes. But worth it. I told them I don't buy products from companies who support disrespecting the flag, the anthem,or the country they represent.

Yeah, you tell those Belgiums you don't take kindly to imagined disrespect against the country! And by "country" you mean America, not Belgium.

lol

Yup. I remember those horrible bud bowl commercials too.

I agree 100% with this. Except I don't think the NFL or the vast majority of its players have done this. So I called and to express that they should not withdraw their sponsorship.

AB Inbev is located in St Louis, USA. They sell more beer in the USA than anyone else. I expect they care a lot about who and why their is selling or not selling. Unlike the NFL, who doesn't seem to care.

Bud sales up, NFL sales down. 5 or so %/week if the polls are correct.

Well congrats. Keep rooting for America's greatest sport to fail for whatever reason trump told you to believe. Good luck with that.

InBev cares about overall profits, yes. I would suspect that most multi-national corporations would. But this is just some little game to play, to try to cash in on some political brouhaha that is relatively meaningless. The Belgiums may see some momentary bump, but that's about it. The whole faux outrage over kneeling athletes is rather silly overall, and a non-issue. But a cunning international corporation could take advantage of it in order to try to gain some increase in profit.

lol

Actually the primary owners are Brazilian. I worked there when that purchase took place. That was a fun one.

Great company to work for, but they don't give a crap about anything other than making money, believe that....lol.... I remember when they were getting very panicky about the fact that the spirits market was growing, while the beer market was shrinking. We had a company wide initiative where we were very strongly "encouraged" to refer to spirits as "hard liquor", as market research indicated people were less inclined to drink "hard liquor" than "spirits", because it sounds more sketchy...lol... This initiative was rolled out to ALL North American employees. We were brought into meetings, all worked stopped. All to tell us what word to use so as to drive a negative market image of a competing industry.

So, further to your point, don't get too too warm and fuzzy about this. lol... They're just getting a temperature reading, and Bud (the brand) may have a different demographic than their "craft" beers and imports (say, Rolling Rock, Shock Top, or Stella Artois), and each have their own advertising plan geared towards their demographic. Don't be surprised to see red white and blue ads for Bud, and ads supporting the protest for some of their more high brow brands.

Monetizing division is surprisingly easy, it would appear.

Thanks, I'll watch for those.

I'm not rooting for anything to fail. Except for the misdirected protest. I'm saying NFL has no clue as to their audience. The Trump told me what to believe is also failing. Simply not true. Trump never told me to not watch NFL or not buy Bud.

This, and all your subsequent posts stressing the same point, constitutes the most pertinent response of this thread so far.

They should even try to make Budweiser and by that I mean something like the original from České Budějovice, not the horse-piss they're using to insult that name.

Sad truth is, the Czech's have had to fend off constant attempts at buyouts from AB in it's various permutations. Not because AB wants to buy a good product, but because the Czech's own the Euro Budweiser naming rights that AB wants!

So in an odd twist, the upstart that stole the original name now wants to buy the original name!
