Las Vegas: Why did it take the police so long?

This is entirely typical of news events today. The reports in the first few days, especially the first few hours, are often mistaken.

In this case, the smoke detector story probably wasn't true. Timelines based on the audio records show that a team of officers, who decided to enter the Mandalay, reported hearing gunfire on the 32nd floor about 6 minutes after the shooting started. SWAT teams were dispatched based on LVMPD officers, not a smoke alarm.


Personally, I wonder if we will ever get a solid count on the number of rounds fired. All of the brass would be in the room or on the sidewalk below. The rounds fired compared to casualties will be some indicator as to how good he was, or how lucky he was with the shots.

He was firing randomly into a crowd of 20,000 people from the 32nd floor. He didn't have to be good or lucky. He just had to aim in the right general direction.

Why does it matter how many rounds he fired? Just count the empty boxes are go with it.
