I'd like to voice a few of my thoughts on this horrible tragedy. First off, I'd like to once again offer my condolences to the families of the 58 victims, and wish that the 500+ injured have a speedy recovery.

1. I think people need to stop with the knee-jerk reactions (I know people won't, but still). I've been seeing reactions all over Twitter, with people wanting to go after the NRA and implement more gun control laws. Like a certain moderator mentioned in another thread, we need to be patient and asses the situation beforehand, before we start trying to make changes. This just happened a few hours ago; emotions are still running high. It is not the best time to make any sort of legislative decisions right now, especially since we still have no idea what the motivation of the shooter was.

2. This is mostly directed to the CBS lawyer that said this, but to anyone that is saying that they have no sympathy for the victims, because they're "Trump supporters" or Republicans, or whatever, do me a favor and go **** yourself. The fact that your let your own petty politics come before sympathy for other human beings, shows how much of a ****ed up human being you are.

1. When people get emotional they jump to conclusions, even illogical ones. It's what the limbic system of the brain does. The media doesn't help matters with their vague reporting. Add political bias to the mix and it gets even worse. You can't expect people not to do it. When the biggest shooting in the U.S. history just happened and the details are still scant, it's shocking and mysterious at the same time. Mystery breeds speculation.

2. She's a lawyer. They're a different species. Not the worst thing I've heard come out of one's mouth, believe me.

Wise young woman.

I totally agree.

That lawyer for CBS said it all when she stated she had no sympathy for the victims because country music fans often are republican gun toters. What a sick demented bitch! What she's saying is she supports the asshole who committed the mass shooting, but I'll bet $1,000,000 at a Vegas casino that she's one of those so-called progressives who favors more gun laws. Imagine that.

The CBS ''lawyer'' - prejudiced....stupid....and I may be a so-called progressive who favor more stringent gun laws AND enforcement . I suspect that background checks are a joke , a most horrible joke .

I really cant stand the callousness of it. The irony being she was accusing those unwilling to give up their rights after the tragedy as callous. Glad she got fired... despicable.

That lawyer will be a 'liberal media' issue before the day's out.

I agree.

I am so tired of politicians and public commentators predictable and instant scream for their brand of politics. No one has time to reflect or absorb the meaning of the event, or to show any public unity over our fellow Americans being murdered. I am sick of EVERY life event, from football to LVegas tragedy becoming a cynical and sick opportunity for narcissistic political activists to preen THEIR oh so precious opinions of who is really at fault.

Has it really got to the point that a CBS lawyer is so alienated, so sick, that the fellow American victims are dismissed as if they were human garbage? Such loathing, in previous generations, were reserved for the SS killers or Japanese militarists, not ANY group of Republicans or Democrats.

And finally, how can someone with professional degree be so utterly stupid? Men, women, and probably children were murdered - tourists and residents, black and white, people from every walk of life.

And yet this bottom feeding scum lethally hates anyone who goes to a country concert, those "Trump supporters".

1. Legislation isn't thrown together overnight. It sounds like you're just trying to shut down any conversation that seeks to address the frequency and/or severity of mass shooting events. I don't think you realize that your statement here is, itself, a "knee jerk" reaction, influenced by the politics of "let's not discuss gun control in the wake of a mass shooting".

2. Okay.

The gun issue is a rural vs. urban debate and both sides are right. If you live on a farm, gun violence aren't a problem and they're part of the culture. Guns in a city full of millions of people, some of them crazy are a disaster.

How does one address this? Passing tougher laws for city dwellers, often times including higher considerations of minorities, can and would be spun as a race issue.

I don't disagree with what you're saying here. But there's another aspect to this worth pointing out:

Why do we even know about it? She made post on her Facebook page, so why is it national news? None of us had ever heard of her before this, and she is not a public figure of note or anyone whose opinion on this matter is relevant.

The publicizing of this is a political act, so while her words are worthy of condemnation, the "news" outlets using this to stoke outrage are equally despicable and disgusting.

Great op, Ms Gov.

NYC has more restrictive gun laws than the State itself. Not sure how they go about it though.

So.....yet another act of terrible evil in my country.

I'll say this much. I've talked with the wife for a while. It seems to me that if one imagines any other of the great evils from recent history - Stalin, Hitler, etc., - that their actions make logical sense so long as you assume the truth of the facts they relied on. Now those facts were wrong, and purposely crafted to justify the evil actions.

But there still was an internal logic IF those facts were true.

That just about always seems to be the case when we look at the evils of history, the work of mankind's wretchedness. But of this and similar shootings?

There is no logic. It is new. Similar weapons could have been used in the Prohibition Era (Tommy Guns, etc), but were not used so indiscriminately. See, insanity isn't stupidity. You can insanely believe that Saddam Hussein controls a bank necessary to run WMD operations against the Kurds. If you then rob/attack that bank on that insane belief, you at least have a logical reason for the attack, no matter how it may be classified. I cannot fathom a set of facts which if believed would justify this Vegas attack and other attacks over the last twenty years. Yet, for much longer in our history as humans, the means of carrying out the attacks and mental causes of instability have persisted; if one were the means and the other were the cause, it would have happened as often in the past. So it cannot simply be mental illness or an availability of weaponry. It cannot.

I used to think to myself that if I were in the biblical Abraham's position (and I'm not religious) - defend humanity from extermination against the creator - I'd simply play Yo Yo Ma playing Bach's Cello Concertos. Surely, that transcendent beauty....that idea of having the concept of the worth of reaching for it......that that's enough. Because how could you destroy the creation that created such a thing? How? How to destroy a thing that strives to make something greater than itself, a thing of beauty?

For several years now, though, I've thought I'd probably just sit silent. We seem as reprehensible as ever, at the moment.

If we are to progress, we must come to understand what has caused this shift in human behavior. Destruction with meaning is awful, evil, but at least it can be understood. It can be protected against. Meaningless destruction?

.....

This isn't particularly articulate, but whatever. You get the gist.

The people of this country get exactly what they ask for where guns are concerned....You want to mix guns and people this is what you get.

I don't understand the people who seem surprised by these events. Over and over and over again it happens and the reaction is the same.....empty, meaningless prayer and condolences.

Either do something about it or shut up and stop complaining. When you put people in cars on the road, there will be accidents and poor personal behaviour...we live with it because transportation is vitally important to our lifestyle. Likewise, if you folks think your guns are so damned important then learn to live with the inevitable consequences.
