Humans have always enjoyed violence as long as they weren't personally on the receiving end. In the 1950's American culture suppressed what were considered baser desires for violence and sex. I think the sexual revolution of the 60's had the effect of weakening inhibitions of antisocial behaviors. In my lifetime the culture has become coarser and meaner. Now we have the internet where nothing ever goes away and can be shared endlessly. I don't think it will get better any time soon.
