Donald Trump calls for NFL to create rule mandating players stand for national anthem

An NFL spokesperson declined to address President Donald Trump’s latest tweet on Tuesday, which called for the league to create a rule that mandates players stand for the national anthem.

“I am little behind on his tweets,” NFL spokesperson Joe Lockhart told reporters on Tuesday. “I may catch up by the end of the day.”

Around 9 a.m. ET, Trump tweeted: "The NFL has all sorts of rules and regulations. The only way out for them is to set a rule that you can't kneel during our National Anthem!"

Earlier on Tuesday morning, Trump was tweeting about the Cowboys' protest on Monday night, as well as NFL ratings. The Cowboys and owner Jerry Jones took a knee before the national anthem played for a Monday Night Football matchup against the Cardinals in Arizona.

The Cowboys' gesture took place after a Sunday of protests throughout the NFL.

Typical Trump

Here's a compromise. NFL will create a rule that a player must stand during the national anthem if the president stops posting (both on his personal and official account) on social media like Twitter. Deal?

Yep, the next thing you know the government will penalize you if you don't buy X or reward you with a subsidy if you do buy X.

Typical Trump

Typical you. Typical me.

There is nothing wrong with him suggesting the NFL rule this behavior in the workplace is unacceptable. In fact, that's why people are so pissed. Because it IS expressed in the workplace.

Taking a knee at work is so cheap, isn't it? Doesn't even cost their time. What they should be doing is mentoring inner-city kids, pushing for schools to get rid of troublemakers in the classroom so kids who actually want to learn CAN learn. Pushing police departments to engage in more inner-city outreach. Giving motivational speeches in their old neighborhood's schools. Donating to send inner-city schools to summer camp to expose them to something besides the war zones their OWN neighbors create. Publicize the importance of education, family values. Establishing college scholarships with their tens of millions.

It's really ez to "take a knee," isn't it?

Yep, and okra is a vegetable too my friend.

Actually it is an allopolyploid of uncertain parentage and a flowering plant within the mallow family along with cotton, cacao and durian.

Many of them already do.

The NFLPA announced Friday that Kaepernick is the winner of the Week 1 Community MVP award in honor of his “commitment to empowering underserved communities through donations and grassroots outreach.”

Kaepernick announced before last season that he would donate $1 million to various charities as well as all proceeds from sales of his jersey. He has donated to Meals on Wheels, a charity that gives suits to parolees and to famine relief in Somalia, among dozens of other charities.

Kapernick has also gotten involved in the community first-hand, hosting a “Know Your Rights Camp” in cities around the country to inspire youth and teach them about proper interactions with law enforcement.

That didn't stop the NFL Players Association from naming him its Community MVP for Week 1 this season. The union announced Friday that on Sept. 7, Kaepernick gave $25,000 each to four charities, part of his pledge last year to donate $1 million to organizations working in oppressed communities.

The groups are DREAM, which provides after-school activities and sports opportunities to New York youth; Coalition for the Homeless; The Gathering for Justice's War on Children, a program meant to reduce child incarceration that will launch next year; and United We Dream, which advocates for young immigrants.

The union says Kaepernick has given $900,000 of his $1 million goal.

Yes, it can be easy to just take a knee, but as you can see, many of those who are most outspoken are doing far more than that. Maybe instead of attacking them for not doing things they are actually already doing, maybe you could lend your support to them instead, since they are doing exactly what you said they should do?
