97-year-old WWII vet goes viral after 'taking a knee' to support NFL players

Re: 97 year old WWII vet takes a knee

Yesterday was Gold Star Mother's day. How many of these jerkoffs are a Gold Star Parent?

How many people sit on their ass at home while the anthem plays before a game? How many people who proudly fly confederate flags are outraged over people "disrespecting" the American flag. This is a cultural battle. It has nothing to do with actually disrespecting the United States.

Re: 97 year old WWII vet takes a knee

This dude is a jackass just like the football players. It's worse, because as a veteran, he should know better.

It's freakin' hilarious that you do not see the irony in your statement. Your freedom to kneel -- amongst other things -- is what he fought for. If anyone is being unpatriotic and anti-American, it is you.

Re: 97 year old WWII vet takes a knee

What does disrespect for the flag, and those who died to protect it, have to do with police brutality?

It makes a person feel shame for the country they love. Why America does not treat its own equally is a disgrace to them -- and should be to you, too.

Re: 97 year old WWII vet takes a knee

Millionaires whining about racism. That's a hoot.

What??? How on earth are those two things related???

You know these guys didn't necessarily start out as millionaires, right?

Re: 97 year old WWII vet takes a knee

You do realize that you just demonstrated hypocrisy, firstly, by accusing someone of being senile with no evidence, and secondly by disrespecting a veteran. Good job.

As Trump himself conned US Service Vets thru Trump U. I dont expect his supporters to respect the same Vets he ripped off.

Re: 97 year old WWII vet takes a knee

I did not take a stance, I just want justice for a poor old man, who was in his yard gardening, and this other dude comes up takes his picture and exploits him. It is worthy of a hate crime. You know darn good and well, is isn't tracking whats going on in the world, and he does not agree with kneeling for the national anthem. Typical leftist, end justifies the means.
I smell troll house cookies.

I want all Americans treated equally, but I'm not dumb enough to think that disrespect for the flag has anything to do with it.

Re: 97 year old WWII vet takes a knee

When you fail to respect the anthem -- you're disrespecting the flag and those who died for it.
When you’re watching a sporting event on TV, you’re the first one out of the chair with hand over heart, when the anthem’s played, eh?

I don't watch sporting events, but when I'm in a crowd where the anthem is being played, I stand with the rest of the citizens, hand over heart.

That’s your choice. We have the freedom not to stand for any reason we choose. Maybe you’d like to see laws passed to make it illegal not to stand. Get working on that.

Nope. No laws. The team owners, the fans, and the league, will decide what happens.

It has nothing to do with being forced to stand. It has everything to do with being intentionally disrespectful.

Re: 97 year old WWII vet takes a knee

Yeah so at least you mentioned the vet in your response. That was big of you. Just wondering though, do you give a hang about the question? It is kind of a game changer, specially if you see yourself as captain America, but you are no vet, then I'd answer to that guy. And if you are a vet I'd still answer to that guy.

I don't really care that you think the only valid response is to pretend that one person, especially someone whose 97 years old and frankly God knows if he even knows what he's doing, much less the current political motivations behind that, has the only claims.

But hey, we can have somebody be Captain Cuba and throw the players into "forced re-education camps". After all, we keep hearing from those "protesting injustice" that Castro had such a great education system, right?

Nothing will happen. People have short memories, no one cares and soon the faux outrage of the right wingers will be focused on some other trivial issue

I thought they died for what the flag represented, not the flag itself, a piece of colored cloth.

That flag represents democratic principles and constitutional governance, with liberty and justice for all, right?

Lame argument.

I fought for my freedom to call him a jerkoff. Are you saying his rights overrule mine?

You don't have a clue what being an American is even about.

Tell that to Colin Kaepernick who was not signed this season.

This issue will quietly take care of itself.

So?....

Could they have become millionaires playing football in any other country?

The flag represents many facets of our governance, but, when the anthem is played, it represents ONE thing -- respect for those who put our nation before their own selfish needs.

Is this a lack of patriotism and respect for the flag. Or is this a definition of the symbolic meaning of an inanimate object that differs from the "norm"

This guy is just on one knee in his yard! I saw the headline, and thought he was at least at a football game during the national anthem. Is the national anthem playing in his yard or something? Is there at least a touch football game? If not, how do we know what is going on?

Re: 97 year old WWII vet takes a knee

My story has just as much truth as your story. That said, you disregard 150,000 veterans who are against the kneeling, but this one particular vet gets you excited....I wonder why....typical leftist, ignore the majority, and find the one outlier, and present them as the norm, as evidence of what these athletes are doing is good.

You made stuff up. You really don't have any reason for anyone to trust or believe you going forth.

Very romantic and sentimental thoughts Howard.
