The entire football team, made up of third graders, took a knee at their school football game. The coach says he had the support of all the parents and was, of course, protected by the First Amendment. A little boy interviewed was asked why and he said, paraphrased, "Because black people are being murdered and nobody's going to jail."

Would you, as a parent, support the coach's decision? Are the parents right? Is the coach right to engineer this demonstration?

My only thought on this story is the thought that as third graders, whose protest was it? Parents, coaches? Third graders seem to be a little young for this sort of organization. I wil admit that I am many years removed from my time as a third grader!

1) I, as a father, would support the coach's decision. It would be a great teachable moment about social issues and responsibility, as well as draw attention to an important issue.

2) The parents are right if they support this initiative. I would also say that if parents pulled their kids because they didn't support the initiative, they'd be right also - this should not be a "mandatory" or "forced" exercise.

3) If the coach had the support of the parents, I think he was right to "engineer" this demonstration. "Black people are being murdered and nobody's going to jail." (and all other problematic issues that this demonstration would address) is a problem, and they could use all the help they can get. On it's own, it won't change much, but as a part of the sum it raises awareness (here we are talking about it), so that's a good thing.

Not bothered by this in the least....though I'm sure I'll have some folks who disagree with me....hehe

What important issue? "Because black people are being murdered and nobody's going to jail."? Yeah, nothing like indoctrinating 8 year olds with racist nonsense.

Any parent who supports this nonsense is a moron, and I question their parental abilities.

Right, so you believe teaching kids left wing propaganda, and lies is a good thing. Got it.

Of course you aren't. No surprise there.

As long as he has the support of the parents I see no issue with this. Where I would see an issue is if a child was told to do this by the coach and the parents of that child either don't approve of it or weren't told.

And before someone says "OMG think of the children and them being indoctrinated", that already happens by the parents. Many people don't seem to mind when a parent tells their child homosexuality is wrong, so there shouldn't be an issue with this then.

Yeah, now lets pray together.

But you approve of parents telling their children homosexuality is wrong correct? Yeah only YOUR indoctrination should be tolerated right?

Any parent who supports this nonsense is a moron, and I question their parental abilities.

I say the same of parents who tell their children Muslims are evil and homosexuality is wrong.

Right, so you believe teaching kids left wing propaganda, and lies is a good thing. Got it.

But you have no problem with parents teaching about sky people and homosexuality is wrong. got it again, only your indoctrination should be allowed.

Of course you aren't. No surprise there.

Noone is surprised at your hypocrisy.

Yeah, now lets pray together.

Woah woah woah. Let's not get carried away. Teaching 8 year olds racist propaganda is perfectly acceptable. Praying? That's child abuse.

Isn't your introduction of homosexuality in this thread a strawman?

I'm pretty much over the whole kneeling thing. If people want to continue to promote stupidity and bigotry...whatever. These kids will be indoctrinated as to their 'victim' status sooner or later...so...whatever...might as well get it out of their system now.

Isn't your introduction of homosexuality in this thread a strawman?

No, because it demonostrates that "indoctrination" is simply a code word used by the right to describe anything they don't like. It's called a comparison, countryboy complained about this as being "indoctrination" and wrong so I used the comparison of parents teaching their kids about homosexuality being wrong as an acceptable "indoctrination" from folks like countryboy. Can't have it both ways.

Of course it is. Not only that, but his lame attempt at illustrating "hypocrisy", with rank hypocrisy, is laughable, at best.

Bingo. This was wrong for that reason. This wasn't their protest. These kids need to be asking their coaches and parents why they are kneeling to support people who are often drug dealers and gang bangers. These "concerned" parents need to focus on making sure their kids grow up outside that environment. It isn't unique to black kids. Plenty of white trash end up there too.

/yawn, sorry I am correct. You approve of indoctrination as long as you agree with the subject.

Oh, you so angry, mister! lol...

In other news, I suddenly realize that I'm completely desensitized to over the top political outrage. Finally!! :)

After skimming the article, I don't think the team has any direct affiliation with a school. Tradition in the United States encourages indoctrination of children toward notions of social norms. I appreciate what this team and it's coach did. I believe the coach encouraged thoughtfulness instead of thoughtlessness in the children.

From the link:

“What I teach my kids is love, integrity, honesty, fairness, respect and boundaries,” he said.

The players’ parents reportedly supported the coach’s decision to allow the team to take a knee; however, a Facebook post from his wife reveals that there has been some backlash from other residents in the area.

“As long as I have support of my parents and team, I’m perfectly fine, and I’m covered under the First Amendment to peacefully protest and assemble,” Gooden said.

As children, most of us learned (in a thoughtless follow-the-leader manner) to pledge and make references to God. In my high school, 10th grade 1971-72, I took and enjoyed a mandatory course called American v. Communism.

Let us strive for a vibrant society capable of tolerating diverse and opposing views!

If you wish to call everything a parent teaches a child "indoctrination," then you're absolutely right because it's ALL indoctrination. But we, as a society, can either approve or disapprove of those teachings.

My kid is not to be used as someone elses protest prop. I would of not given his coach my permission to use my child like that.

If he wants to stage a protest like this he should bus in protesters and pay them, like the rest of the left does when they want their way.

Yes and the majority of society has approved of gay marriage and homosexuality NOT being wrong. However, that doesn't stop those certain parents. Look, I'm not saying we should make it illegal, but I just find it funny that others deem something as "indoctrination" when they don't agree with it, yet think it is perfectly acceptable to pawn off their own indoctrination on kids.

If we lived in my perfect world, people wouldn't use kids as pawns for anything like anti-gay stances, racists, or protests like this. However, we don't live in a perfect world so folks like countryboy and others are also going to have to deal with stuff like this as well.

Yea. I know. Personal responsibility is very hard to come by these days. Amazing how al my black friends seem to have their **** together and don't get harassed by police and don't have 5 kids out of wedlock and have college degrees and good jobs. Wish I could say the same for all of my white family...but the reality is that you will have a lot more problems with the law and life if you act trashy as ****.
