8-year-old Cahokia football team kneels during anthem ahead of recent game

Wow do you need a safe space to get away from those mean 3rd graders who hurt your feelings?

Excellent. It indicates he's a free-thinker at an early age.

It's nothing you'd be likely to understand.

free-thinker at an early age

I would say he and the kids are followers and while the coach tried to explain their actions I doubt an 8 year old understands all the implications beyond imitating what they see pros do.

But I don't really have a problem with this as long as the coach is ok with getting **** talked to him as a result

Maybe they are just trying to lay low to avoid the drive-by shootings.

Just remove the national anthem from little league football games. Problem solved.

Just remove it from all sports. WTF do sports have to do with patriotism anyway.

Is it really that different from a coach peer pressuring students to participate in a post game prayer?

the national anthem and people who died fighting for our country are real....God? who the hell knows!

Have you ever laced up a pair of boots and pledged your life away, Vols? If you haven't, I highly advise that using the military and our fallen as your political cudgel is illadvised.

Indoctrination... leftists coach forcing his political beliefs upon an audience of captive children.

Nothing like teaching children to hate their country at the youngest of age!

How is this different than coaches forcing his players to pray before a game? Not all of us are christian, nor want some coach to force us to pray to his god.

Again, another thread of hyperbolic bilge by the OP.

If it's the parents' wishes, it's none of our damn business!

"All the parents on the team supported the coach’s decision to take a knee. However, a Facebook post by Gooden’s wife was met with some backlash.

“As long as I have support of my parents and team, I’m perfectly fine, and I'm covered under the First Amendment to peacefully protest and assemble,” Gooden said."

Yeah, I agree.

But the article states the parents support it, so it seems this is a parent-coach-athlete relationship and nothing for others or the government to interfere with.

While we all have the right to participate, or not, that anthem gives us the opportunity to come together as Americans, even if just for a minute or two. I wouldn't want to see it go. I think it's a beautiful tradition.

It started in 1918, and spread as reverence for the troops through most other leagues. Though public addresses were also given at these times during sporting events, but the anthem was well received by everyone at the time. That is why we still play it to this day, as more of a way to show respect to our troops.

Yeah...whatever.

The average 8 year old can barely be bothered to make his or her bed, let alone take an interest in politics and race relations......this was clearly the coach playing politics.

Next outrage moment, please...this trope is getting stale. :coffeepap

I really hate it when anyone uses children as a political weapon, something that really needs to be stopped in this day & age. Though I have seen people on the right do it from time to time, I believe that it has really come into use by the left leaning groups more so in the last two years.

Though the parents of the children are okay with this, its easy to see that they are falling for same thing everyone else is. These kids are still 8, they don't even know what they really want to do with their lives, much less care about the next day to come. They can't possibly have such a defined opinion, without someone using them to parrot it out into the open.
