8-year-old Cahokia football team kneels during anthem ahead of recent game

I really hate it when anyone uses children as a political weapon, something that really needs to be stopped in this day & age. Though I have seen people on the right do it from time to time, I believe that it has really come into use by the left leaning groups more so in the last two years.

Though the parents of the children are okay with this, its easy to see that they are falling for same thing everyone else is. These kids are still 8, they don't even know what they really want to do with their lives, much less care about the next day to come. They can't possibly have such a defined opinion, without someone using them to parrot it out into the open.

But its very common in the politicians play book.....kids make great props. They have evolved ( devolved, actually) from kissing babies to shedding a tear and using the "Do it for the children" gambit.

Even more useful to the politician are the kids that survive a tragedy....its like emotional heart string gold to these types.

Unfortunately, more so then we can expect to see in the future even.

Excellent. It indicates he's a free-thinker at an early age.

It's nothing you'd be likely to understand.
Really? What did you know about politics at 8? And try not to lie for a change.

Instead, we should have rightist coaches forcing a display of patriotism.

Right, because patriotism is synonymous with racist propaganda.

Libs, ya gotta love 'em.

How is this different than coaches forcing his players to pray before a game? Not all of us are christian, nor want some coach to force us to pray to his god.

Again, another thread of hyperbolic bilge by the OP.

What message is taken forward if a kid prays before a game.

Now what message is taken forward by what happened here?

These kids are just going to know, they won't know how, that police and the country are racist.

Why would you want to saddle a kid with that?

Yeah, I agree.

But the article states the parents support it, so it seems this is a parent-coach-athlete relationship and nothing for others or the government to interfere with.

What do you think would have happened to one of those 8-year-old athletes if they didn't want to participate in this charade?

I didn't say anything about racist propaganda. No person should be forced one way or the other to show any political views. Including their own (Freedom of Speech includes the right to not speak).

Freedom of speech sometimes means speech you disagree with.

Sure beats the alternative.

Then again, I rather doubt they would have approved of someone who loves talk about "injustice" going on to praise a rather vicious and brutal regime.

Protest is the most American right we have, you don't have to agree with a protestor.

But there is no right to have people agree with you or treat your actions like they deserve respect. There is especially no right to demand a job when you have been performing rather poorly at your old one, no matter what Deadspin thinks.

Who said patriotism is the same as racist propaganda? who mentioned racist propaganda?

Retarded and dishonest starwmen, gotta love em'

Personally I don't see how this is any different than forcing kids to regurgitate the pledge of allegience if your beef is really with indoctrination.

Should your kid be "forced" to congratulate the other team at the end of the game, win or lose, as a sign of sportsmanship and respect?

Thankfully my child is none of your business and no one answers to you.

Should that reply be interpreted as "my kid doesn't have to respect anyone or anything but everyone needs to respect my kid"?

You can correctly interpret that as I have no concern about your interpretations, they are your's afterall, and have nothing to do with me.

Death to those who deviate from the mandatory loyalty ritual

Just to be clear every young (brown, black, considered different) american is saddled with it daily. If you think 8 years old is to young you should have heard the 1st grader telling my daughter to be careful and that was 20 years ago.
So yeah I had to explain things to my kids as soon as they started regular school.

Yesterday it was raining my 10 year old nephew had his hoodie up, he was told he can't enter the school with the hood on. I looked around and didn't see any other kids being told to take off there hoods while still outside.
Went to the office and asked if this was a new policy was told "no it's raining" why would we do that?
Found out later it's a rule no hoodies in the hallway.

Kids are learning earlier and earlier and thank god they are.
And please don't tell me I am a liberal I have voted republican, democrat & independent and have lived in both blue and red states.

Just to be clear, you are OK with teaching a whole team of 8th graders that the police are racist and can't be trusted.

Is that what you are saying here?
