Nearly half of those surveyed (48 percent) say that freedom of speech is a right guaranteed by the First Amendment. But, unprompted, 37 percent could not name any First Amendment rights. And far fewer people could name the other First Amendment rights: 15 percent of respondents say freedom of religion; 14 percent say freedom of the press; 10 percent say the right of assembly; and only 3 percent say the right to petition the government.

Civics is required as part of the public school curriculum in all 50 states, but this performance is no worse than just about any other subject that requires students to learn specific knowledge. Schools are graduating students who don't know anything.

So, these antifa punks likely never learned that free speech, freedom of religion, freedom of association, freedom of the press, and the right to petition the government are protected. No wonder they think they can demand that the speech rights and the right to assembly of their opponents can be suspended. No wonder Democrats seem to think that there is no right to practice a religion.

The only group of Americans who can be relied upon to have seriously studied the Bill or Rights, aside from lawyers, is naturalized citizens.

Memorizing which specific rights are filed under which numbered amendment is largely irrelevant. The important question is whether or not the average American knows they have these rights, and whether they understand what they mean and why.

So, these Antifa punks likely never learned that free speech

HAHAHAHA!!!!!!

I feel very confident saying that approximately zero members of Antifa failed your little quiz. The people who struggle with these questions are going to be almost exclusively Trump supporters, and people who didn't vote at all.

Well then maybe we should naturalize some more citizens rather than kick them out of the country.

How many times do people like you have to be told that only the government can violate 1st amendment rights? Antifa has nothing to do with "free speech" rights.

Your ignorance on the issue is especially entertaining considering the nature of your thread.

Antifa has nothing to do with this poll.

Poll: 0 in 10 LowDowns are aware that nobody on DP needs a new thread for every article he finds on the internet. (Also you don't know how links work)

Antifa has nothing to do with this poll.

If he hadn't inexplicably added antifa to the thread he might have ran the risk of not being hyperpartisan. Can't have that.

You have a statistically unrealistic perception of Antifa's membership.

You, uh, seem to have forgotten your article. Might want to add the link in there, buddy.

There's absolutely no reason to believe that. You are making baseless assumptions from your prejudices.

I dare you to re-run this poll and ask about how participants voted, and whether or not they are sympathetic to Antifa. You'll find my assertions are deadly accurate.

I have the 1st Amendment on my desk. It is in the lobby of our building. Each person in editorial carries it on their person (it's on the back of a GA Press Pass). We live it.

The credentials of education have become pretty useless, from public schools because they are focused on giving away as many as they can, and from Universities because they are focused on selling as many as they can......however they can.

Deciding to not have standards carries consequences.

I did not conduct the poll, so obviously I cannot do this. However nothing that indicates you are correct. I'm liable to believe the opposite, because conservatives often lobby for strict adhering to the constitution.

A large part of the problem is the public school system. They're too busy emphasizing socialist agenda, and teachers are too busy playing the part of parents, psychologists, and wardens. Kids would rather poke around on their damn phones and indulge in social media than learn about the real world around them. Their parents are a lot to blame for this too.

Though, I do believe that precision knowledge like the above, mathematics, chemistry etc are probably doing much worse than in the past or in South Korea and Shanghai I once read a Senate speech by Cicero complaining of the same thing.
