EASTVALE (CBSLA) — The National Anthem is the focus of controversy again, this time at a bar in Riverside County.Customers at a Buffalo Wild Wings in Eastvale say an employee refused to let them hear the anthem before an NFL game Monday night – which happened to be the 16th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.
A customer who identified herself as Lori said the employee refused to play the sound of the anthem for one game, but played it for the game before.
When he was asked why, the employee — who was not identified – said the anthem is too controversial, and it was company policy not to play it.

And the idiocy of the idiots protesting the Anthem continues to amaze the world.

Silly decision but nothing for us to be reasonably outraged at. This store isn't even within a thousand miles of us.

A customer who identified herself as Lori said the employee refused to play the sound of the anthem for one game, but played it for the game before.

Customer complains about the anthem being played before only one of two games, one time, in one little restaurant far far away, in a little town with a population of under 15,000 which none of us had heard of (most likely), and it is reported in a local L.A. station.

That actually results in a thread.

Once more, I must decline to have a fit about the alleged travesty......

If it helps, I suggest that the OP's creator not visit Buffalo Wild Wings in Eastvale, CA.

It's the mentality affecting regular every day life. I agree it was REALLY dumb of the worker.

So what. It's one restaurant, in one city. There are about ten thousand issues more outrageous than this, Renae.

Of course there are. I found it interesting. Not "outrage OMG WTF BBQ SAUCE" more "Roll eyes.. seriously?" level.
I'll be looking for pointless threads and if I don't see you and some of the others here castigating the OP, I'll have to call you out for harassment.

Yes, I believe the word here is harassment.

Ummm....what?

You started a ridiculous thread. Multiple people pointed out its ridiculousness. That's not "harassment." That's what happens when you start a thread people don't like. It has, in fact, happened to me.

That's a hell of a thing to say to me here, even if tongue-in-cheek.

Well, you took extra effort to come to this thread and derail it because you feel the subject is not worthy of discussion. So if you aren't doing that to other "meaningless" threads, what else do we call it?

The staff screwed up, the people reacted, it made the interwebs.

Stupid thing to react to. They could leave, or pull up a version of the national anthem and listen to it 24/7 if they want to.

So they didn't hear it once, are they somewhat less patriotic Americans because of it? Are they damaged?

Nope, they are just being upset for no reason whatsoever, I mean the staff had the right of it, they should have cheered her on. How could ANYONE be offended when told the National Anthem isn't allowed by company policy because it's offensive? I'll try to unroll my eyes now...

That any of this makes the news is the idiocy. One moron does something that upsets a cupcake and it is considered news. Now if we had a brawl erupt between the I want game X on the TV nearest me guy and the I want game Y on the TV and its 20" nearer to me guy then that might be news. ;)

One of the recent big lies is that "snowflakes" only fall amongst the left...

I cannot imagine a more ridiculous reason for a customer to get offended than that they heard the national anthem loud and clear before one game, stayed there drinking for hours, and then didn't hear it the next time.

Which brings me to another related subject. People here have talked about "principles of free speech" that extend beyond the first amendment. Well, if they do so extend, then the corollary right against compelled speech is also something to consider; namely, societally compelled speech.

I've never liked and always resisted the classroom pledge of allegiance or signing of the anthem. Whether or not I perform these societally compelled or, shall we say, coerced acts says nothing of what I would or would not do for my country in the hour of necessity. I deeply resent the idea of loyalty tests such as that of looking to see whether or not someone has dutifully recited some proscribed words. What I feel or would do about my country has nothing to do with whether or not I want to stand and recite on command.

Actions over words.

Edit: and why should I be expected to prove loyalty by assuming a proscribed posture and reciting proscribed words? Why not wait until and unless I am disloyal and only then judge me...

It was the fact it happened at all, bad PR for BWW as they are a place people watch sports. Sports fans of the NFL tend to lean right...
That's just dumb, even if it was one idiot employee.

So not hearing the National Anthem triggered this snowflake.

Direct your anger at the crap food they over charge for, or stay home to hear the anthem.

Personally it's less offensive to turn the sound off for the anthem than hearing some jack off butcher it out of key or trying to make a soulful rendition

It's only "bad PR" for a certain set of people.

The other set of people considered it "bad PR" for Chik-A-Fil's executive to come out strongly against gay marriage. People who disagreed gave them record sales in response, for a period. But then, I doubt that many people who actually like the bar will stop going over this or attend it over the same.

Opinions....

Interesting...douchebag decides to not play the anthem...thread gets started...and snowflakes are so bent out of shape they are tripping over themselves to comment on the OP and call HIM a snowflake.

As long as the beer is properly cold and I can get another in a reasonable amount of time then I see no problem with the bar staff. I often get confused between.which wimps are "snowflakes" and which wimps are "cupcakes" so I'll just call them all wimps from now on. ;)

IS this a discussion about Chik-Fil-A? It is not, it's about a dumb moment, spurred by a dumber movement that generated a news story.
