Michigan Farmer Prohibited From Selling Apples Because He Opposes Same Sex Marriage

Re: Michigan Farmer Prohibited From Selling Apples Because He Opposes Same Sex Marria

This case is not about his religion.

100% correct. Basic common sense and fact.

Re: Michigan Farmer Prohibited From Selling Apples Because He Opposes Same Sex Marria

Yes. He said it. But it needs to be proven. Unless the city is stating that a mere statement on Facebook constitutes a violation of their law. Doesn't that seem a little sketchy?

Again. This is an issue for which the city would need to have proof he doesn't have the weddings (and if his statement on Facebook is enough...then that means this is an issue regarding Facebook and free speech...as the city is using this as a form of evidence to bar him from selling at the facility...because they claim it is a violation of their LAW). So if they are claiming it is a violation of their law...how can they not need to prosecute him and prove it? You can't just skip a court hearing because it is inconvenient.

I think I see the problem ...

It's not a "law". It's a code of ethics, that applies to participants at a farmer's market. There is no legal burden of proof here. Violating lawyer codes of ethics might not land you in jail, but it will get you disbarred. Same thing here ... he didn't do anything technically "illegal", but he's being disbarred for being unethical.

But we have to be tolerant of all religions...until it doesn't suit our agenda. ;)

I think that is the big issue coming from the right. They see the left as hypocritical for that. They see the left going to ends of the earth to make excuses for all kinds of ****ty behavior, but when it comes to tolerance for something in opposition to their agenda...bam...no more tolerance.

And yes. I'm aware of the issue the left has and I don't disagree. I'm in a unique position as a Christian who doesn't oppose homosexuality or even agree with barring people due to that fact. I see it as very unchristian actually. But anyway. Just giving the right wing perspective.

what kind of behavior do you mean?

I love how those unwilling to accept racial or gender intolerance under the guise of "property rights" and "freedom of choice" are called intolerant by those unwilling to be tolerant of racial and gender differences.
