The reason why Mexico will not pay for the Wall

Trump: Give us billions in free money, bitch!
Mexico: No way, Jose!
HowardBThiname: Wow, how dare these prideful Mexicans refuse to give into our arbitrary demands!

Lol, they're "technically paying" for the wall in reduced money being sent home by illegals? How does that money land in government coffers to fund wall construction? If you reduced the money being sent by Mexican Americans to Mexican family to zero it wouldn't pay 1% of the wall.

It's a LOT of money for Mexico. Their economy depends upon it.

Migrants from Latin America and the Caribbean are sending more money to their families back home than ever before.

These annual "remittances" — as they're called by analysts — topped $69 billion in 2016, according to central bank data compiled in a new report by the Inter-American Dialogue, a Washington, D.C.-based think-tank. The money has been a lifeline for the national economies of many countries in the region since at least the 1990s, when Manuel Orozco, a political scientist who authored the report, first began tracking remittances. They climbed steadily since then, only to plummet when the Great Recession hit the U.S. economy in 2008. But they began to rise again in 2012. The 2016 tally is the highest amount on record and an increase of nearly 8 percent over 2015.

About 40 percent of the money goes to just one country — Mexico — practically all of it sent by migrants in the United States.

Except $69 billion is from everyone with Mexican connections, Americans, immigrant Americans, legal and non-legal. You're pretending that putting a wall up stops all of that.

You also never explained how that money somehow finds its way into Trump's Wall-Making Fund. Pretending that is somehow "financing the wall" is Trumpist nonsense.

You're not paying attention. I already posted the chart showing the decreased economic outlook since Trump's election for Mexico. I never said that the money would find its way into the wall fund, I said that Mexico would "pay" one way or the other as a result of Trump's goals (they're already paying, actually), and that they could have offset some of those losses by being more cooperative in monitoring illegal emigration from their own side.

You posted a blog with an unsourced chart showing national growth forecasts of the entire country of Mexico that started a year before Trump took office, then drew an invisible connection to the wall. You then insulted Mexicans as "prideful" for not handing billions in free money to an orange foreigner because he demanded it. Mexico and Mexicans are going to work in their best interests, and fulfilling Trump's nonsensical promises to his illiterate base is not in their best interests.

That "national pride" is costing Mexico dearly.
But, that's par for the course. Pride always goeth before a fall. (see my post above)

At first you weren't paying attention, now you're simply making things up. I never suggested that Mexico hand Trump any money, I suggested that their false pride kept them from making sound decisions that would have helped both emigration and their economy.

The wall, itself, is just an idea. But, it's an idea that's already slowing the trickle of illegals into the US, hence, less money for Mexico.

People who say Mexico will pay for the wall, don't seem to realize how unpopular that would be in Mexico, that any Mexican poltican who supported paying for the wall would be branded a traitor and voted out of office:

America is not the only country with national pride and Trump has tried to trample Mexico's pride and Mexico is not happy, Mexico will never agree to pay for the wall.
Uh, yeah, but... It's also that it is a phenomenally stupid idea to begin with. I don't think any nation has ever forced (or even persuaded) an allied neighbor to pay for anything even remotely like a border wall.

Not wanting to hand an obese orange foreigner billions for no reason is not "false pride". You may not have any self-respect but maybe you can close your eyes and imagine how someone would react that had some.

Your argument is also completely nonsensical. Talk of the wall is slowing illegal immigration, which hurts Mexico's economy, so they should pay billions for a wall that will stop illegal immigration and hurt Mexico's economy? lol.

I am not sure you should respond so rudely aggressive on such a tentative hypothesis. It depends on too many known unknowns.

Rudely insulting Mexicans for not handing Trump billions in free cash for his hairbrain ideas only deserves more rudeness.

Or, really big trampolines. Giant pogo sticks? Ladders? Ropes with grappling hooks? Lawn chairs with helium balloons? Dirt bikes and mobile ramps?

And those are just "over" options... Not sure if the "under" options are as colorful or varied, but ... hehehe... clearly this "solution" has it's holes.

trampolines !!!!!!
You're on to something.
Imagine the possible nut crunches at the top?
and ... and ... betting pools for which side they fall on.
If they fall over they're not gonna be able to run and ICE could be pick 'em up.
If they fall back, they're gonna need ice.

Ya, I'm actually starting to change my mind about this wall, I think it sounds great. While not being all the efficient at keeping illegal aliens out, it does seem to create a very nice extreme sports venue...which might actually encourage Mexicans to not cross the boarder, but instead open up tourist attractions, giving Americans a chance to spend big bucks getting home "the fun way"!!

:lamo You always have a uniquely hilarious way of looking at things!

Spikes or razor wire at the top? During sweeps week? Too much?

Umm...well, I like to keep an open mind... Perhaps if televised it would be good for ratings...but might make new "challengers" harder to find... Maybe doing it without might keep the American tourism angle a little more sustainable? hehehe

Once again, either you're not reading my posts, or you're confusing me with other posters.

Talk of the wall -- and Trump's other anti-illegals is reducing illegal immigration -- we know that -- we've see the stats. Not once did I suggest that Mexico should hand Trump millions for a wall, what I said was that they should OFFER to help reduce fence-jumpers from their side, IN EXCHANGE for greater LEGAL immigration opportunities. Trump has knee-jerk reactions and you've seen how well those work out. Mexico had it's own knee-jerk reaction to Trump when they could have negotiated and turned it around to their benefit.

I'm not now and have never been a wall proponent. I'm simply a realist.

I tell you what, I'll take your suggestion seriously when Trump gives any indication he'd be for increasing any immigration, legal or otherwise from Mexico into the US. Until then you're just making up fantasy scenarios so you can hurl insults at Mexicans.

Trump is not interested in raising immigration levels (legal)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAISE_Act

The bill would cut the legal immigration by half, reducing the number of green cards from more than 1 million to about 500,000.[SUP][3][/SUP] The bill would also remove pathways for siblings and adult children of U.S. citizens and legal permanent residents to apply for permanent lawful residency status in the U.S., limiting the family path to spouses and minor children.[SUP][7][/SUP]The bill would also impose a cap of 50,000 refugee admissions a year and would end the visa diversity lottery

Suit yourself. Just another knee-jerk reaction based on false pride.

The popularity of it on that side of the border is irrelevant.

They will pay, directly or indirectly.
