The Cajun Navy

I heard this morning that 12 of them had to be recused because they encountered rapid water and their Boats capsized because they were too small to handle the water.

Yeah...it's a disaster area, it's dangerous. A Houston police officer just drown. Just because something is dangerous doesn't mean it's not worth doing.

Not trying to be negative, just reporting what I heard on the radio this morning ...

One of the Mayors was reporting that they don't want anymore people putting themselves in danger.

Did I say that or did you?

the mayors comments just means drown people in their homes. Your comments regarding the Cajuns Navies work are just negative obviously there is risk.

There's a balance to be struck between risk and reward in any enterprise. The Cajun Navy is inspiring. I'm sure they'll learn from their inevitable mistakes in this rather dicey situation. Their safety is just as important as that of the people they're trying to help.

I'm sure they will, and that also will be reported.

Wishful thinking...instead of wasting our time bickering at each other, we should sign up to volunteer. I just did.

The CN was born during Katrina, had its second op last summer during the BR flooding and is strictly volunteer, they have no paid staff. Such a group will inevitably have...inefficiencies. The point is the barn raising spirit of America still exists. The risk adverse mind set is being ignored for the sake of helping people.

Yes, that barn-raising/can-do American spirit!

I agree ... all it take is one Hurricane to put everyone in the Same Boat ;) sorta speak

One week the country is fighting with Anti-Government, Anti-Immigrant or Anti-Other's ... the next week they're trying to save each other's lives from drowning.

BTW ... I sure as hell didn't see anyone rejecting Help from someone, because of their Skin Color or their Religion.

 Water kinda does that.

Kudos to the "Cajun Navy." They're showing how Americans should pull together in times of crisis.

They should pull together even in good times. The cajun navy is America at its best.

Now, that would really make America greater.

Not "great again", as it is already that.

That's cool, LB. Stay safe!!! If I were closer to the areas of concern, I'd be right there too. I'm very proud of the Cajun Navy. It's nice to see Americans setting their personal safety aside to help others.

I found out during my last trek into volunteering during a disaster that I'm now allergic to the tetanus vaccine. So I'm doing other things. Gathering supplies, trying to connect families that can't find there loved ones, getting involved in fundraisers.
There are things we can do where we are.
We are all Americans. Let's just help!

Bingo that. There is a boat load of coordination that goes into an op like that that they are short on.

When you go to volunteer websites, you are told that the sites are overwhelmed because so many people want to sign up and help. That alone should show the nay sayers that the good is still in people. Not everyone is hating on one another.
They may have more than they can handle, but they need volunteers for a long time to come.
