The ACLU has come under fire from leftists this week, after Tweeting a photo of a toddler holding an American flag, and wearing a 'free speech' shirt. Here is the original Tweet:

Outrage ensued, with Twitter users accusing the ACLU of promoting a "Nazi Baby", and other excoriating remarks:

No they should not have apologized for the post, it was simple & to the point.
They shouldn't have apologized like all of those little kids posting some rather racist, and hateful **** all over twitter are doing right now don't just up & apologize.

The ACLU have done nothing wrong besides fright for the rights of the people of America, and all of this hate is coming down on them. Because of some half perceived notion of white supremacist love on their part, which is actually non existent.

But liberals making mountains out of mole hills has become sort of par for the course over this last year. So this comes as no surprise to me one bit.

The scary thing is that if you look at who hated the original ACLU post, they're mostly adults. They have been so filled with anti-white rhetoric that they see a toddler with blonde hair and think 'Nazi'.

If the Greatest Generation was the one that fought Hitler, the current generation should be labeled the Worst Generation.

I like to consider them, the **** that the next generation has to step in.
 
People just see what they want to see, whatever suits their agenda to "stick it to the other guy".

I just see a little girl who is absolutely adorable. Nothing more, nothing less.
 
If you are someone who looks really hard for racism, guaranteed you are going to find it. That doesn't necessarily mean that what you found actually IS racism.

Its too bad this sentiment can basically be used to paint nearly every current debate on the site. Its gone past the point of trolling and is just bad comedy in the harshest sense.

Do you actually think anyone would listen? We have become so sensitized to using terms like racism and terrorism to describe practically everything that happens, that few even bother to try to assess things critically, anymore. Just go directly to the nearest sensationalized term and let the media do your thinking for you.

I would be happy to make the argument that letting the media "help" you make an informed decision would be a nice policy. But I haven't thought that way about the media since before Bush Jr, and it sure as hell isn't going to change now.

CNN is too biased, and so is FOX. Though in the defense of FOX news I just tune in to see Tucker Carlson's face on his interviews. The reaction most of his guest get from him is basically priceless.

Its really becoming a tiresome thing to deal with all of this crap.
 
To give credit where credit is due, the ACLU is thoroughly consistent in their belief of free speech. Even in spite of "leftist" who despise the fact that "free speech" applies to someone's right to hold an absolutely toxic ideology that stands against Western values like Nazism and White Nationalism.

Yeah, its really pretty sad they are getting all of this hate for doing basically what their organizations charter stands for.
 
The ACLU should apologize for a great deal of things, but not that.

If it is racist to use a white blonde baby, then I am offended, being white and having blonde hair.
 
The reaction to the small child with the flag and T-shirt is ridiculous. It's an innocent child and both free speech and the US flag should be appreciated by all.

It has nothing whatsoever to do with nazis or white supremacy.

People who can take offense to that are not people we should be listening to.
 
Meh...this is more of a reaction based on the fact that they supported the Nazis in the past, not so much the picture on it's own. Don't wanna take heat, don't side with Nazis. Even America must have some standards...don't they? Then again...your president... ;)

In all seriousness, this is the environment you guys have allowed to become rooted in your society, be prepared for more knee jerk, ridiculousness like this, from both sides....if you ever decided against civility and reasonableness in the name of taking the win against someone from "the other side", even here, this is partly on you.

Nazi is a ridiculous criticism. It was bad PR nevertheless. The image undercuts the idea of beneficent diversity which is the future the ACLU and everyone else should want.

What a bizarre question. ACLU is dependent on its members and public image. If the management of the foundation needs to act as though this were evil and their followers priggish jerks, let them insult the White population. It's their game. They lost their way long ago, sad as that might be.

You may think I'm splitting hairs but the fact is that you're wrong about the ACLU supporting Nazis. The ACLU supports free speech. Sometimes they have supported the free speech of Nazi's. That's fine with me, because if free speech does not apply to everyone, than it doesn't really apply to anyone.

The ALCU supports and defends free speech - not Nazis. It's a fact of life - here anyway - that to defend Constitutional rights usually means defending people that most of us wouldn't associate with.

On the OP. Idiocy. Sheer stupidity. It's impossible to say something that doesn't offend someone. They should not have apologized. The should have told the complainers to grow up.

The top part of my post was somewhat flippant...I understand who the ACLU is and what they do...and how they seem to piss off someone no matter who's freedom of speech they defend...hehe...

As for whether or not they should have apologized...again, meh. This is the new American culture of outrage, who knows if an apology was warranted under the current state or not...? You guys seem happy to keep slugging away at each other, so...maybe you should be thanking them for providing you all with another reason to be pissed off at each other for another day.

On one hand I know there are a group of black twitter trolls who see racism everywhere they look.
On the other hand, ACLU could have used a much different image to show unity and optimism. No babies needed to fuel a political agenda.
