Remember that story about a Colorado man who claimed he was stabbed by someone for having a nazi haircut....?

SHERIDAN, Colo. (CBS4)– A man who told police that he was asked by a stranger whether he was a neo-Nazi before that stranger stabbed him has been arrested for making up the story.

Joshua Witt posted pictures of his stabbing wounds on his Facebook page right after the alleged attack. That post gained a lot of attention in the aftermath of this month’s violent protests in Charlottesville....

Witt told police his attacker was a black man and that he ran towards the bike path the runs along the Platte River.

Police investigated Witt’s claim but became suspicious because his story didn’t match up with the evidence.

Officers located a man who matched the description Witt provided. He is a transient who lives in the area and was cleared as a possible suspect.

Investigators said that video surveillance did not show anyone running from the scene as Witt described.

The supposed victim made the story up....
When police re-interviewed Witt, he admitted to accidentally cutting himself with the knife while parked in his car in front of the sporting goods store. He also admitted making up the story about being attacked.

Witt was booked and released on false reporting charges. If convicted, Witt could face up to $2,650 in fines and up to one year in jail.

The guy who cut himself "accidentally" is the idiot. The people who believed it, are not. Not many would cut themselves and blame the attack on a specific group
 
Is there a term for this? For people who make up stories to get sympathy for themselves or their cause? Other than liar of course. It seems like a variation on Munchausen. We see this stuff from people of all political bents and professions. I remember when a cop vandalized his own car and blamed it on BLM. Or waiters making up nasty comments on the bills they leave and posting pictures of the fake note on the internet. Countless examples. Just wondering if psychologists have come up with a name for it yet.

THis guy should be charged and hopefully convicted and locked up for a long time. All of these false reports...they are just ****ing stupid.

I believe he could face 1 year in jail, and a couple thousand dollar fine (or similar amount)

With any luck he will screw up in jail and will get an extended stay. The world is screwed up with real world **** right now. We dont need the fabricated bull****.

He will probably get community service and a fine. He is a douche but he didn't commit any violent crime.
