So what is the issue?

It is not being taken down, it is not being defaced. All that is being added is more information about the mans life. A clearer view of history, so that it is not erased.

It's called race shaming and in this instance it's being done to assist them in their ever onward attack on the Constitution and our form of government by degrading one the guys that fought for a Bill of Rights that limited the power of the central government, who in fact was an Anti-Federalist wanting the power and authority to reside with the states and the people, being against a central government and would only compromise for a Constitutional Republican form of government that ensured a limited and constrained central government. You see, Jefferson represents everything the Progressives hate in a government. For the most part, the Progressive platform wants a powerful central government in control of the health care system, in control of business regulations, in control of guns, and in control of our lives - except for pot, they like pot.. The fact that Jefferson also owned slaves is just an added bonus to help them try to destroy his role in our history, and his influence on our freedom and liberty.

It's a popular Progressive tactic, to remake this nation into the land of people's cultural whims and no longer a nation of law.
