Secret Service out of money to pay agents because of Trump's frequent travel, large family

The Secret Service can no longer afford to pay hundreds of agents it needs to carry out an expanded protective mission – in large part due to the sheer size of President Trump's family and efforts necessary to secure their multiple residences up and down the East Coast.

Secret Service Director Randolph "Tex'' Alles, in an interview with USA TODAY, said more than 1,000 agents have already hit the federally mandated caps for salary and overtime allowances that were meant to last the entire year.

The agency has faced a crushing workload since the height of the contentious election season, and it has not relented in the first seven months of the administration. Agents must protect Trump – who has traveled almost every weekend to his properties in Florida, New Jersey and Virginia – and his adult children whose business trips and vacations have taken them across the country and overseas.


Overwork and constant travel has also been driving a recent exodus from the Secret Service ranks, yet without congressional intervention to provide additional funding, Alles will not even be able pay agents for the work they have already done.

Unless Trump children work for the government, then they deserve no protection paid by the taxpayer. They are not under 18 like most previous Presidents children, and hence should be left to pay for their own security. That means both older sons and Ivanka who does not official work for the government.. **** them. Baron however should be protected.
 
Likely much ado about nothing, Saying agents have hit their caps for the year,
when the year ends in 6 weeks (The Federal fiscal year ends Sept 30), is not that surprising.

You know if he was smart he could easily come up with a way to rotate his own security with the secret service that way saving the taxpayers money, you know like he loved Putin for figuring out such a way to do so ;)

Can you cite where you voiced your concern's for Government expenditures for the protection of Malia and Sasha Obama?

He is under 18 and living with his mother and father.

Plus the Trump family should be paying their own way if they had any decency.. he is the most expensive President ever... costing 10s of millions every week, and most of that money is going straight into Trumps pockets...

Yes, but it also did not cover the entirety of the fiscal year...Trump did not become President until January. So they hit their cap in 7 months?...Wow

Yep you're right, Baby Mama and kids should be protected ... but Family living in multiple locations shouldn't.

Pick a place to live and have it and the area protected, and everyone traveling with POTUS should be protected.

But having SS sitting around at multiple locations where the POTUS isn't is a waist of money,

They're employed by the Government, not Donald Trump, there are plenty of places in DC and throughout the country where POTUS, The Cabinet, SCOTUS and Congress go. The SS also plans secure travel domestic and abroad.

... and with Donald's cousins, The Klan, they can also help protect American Citizens when Donald's traveling trailor circus goes on the road.

No, the budget included the months covering Obama and his Family.
I suspect transition years are historically more expensive, as many routines and schedules are required to change.
 
The idea of protecting a president's peripherals comes from not wanting him to have to be worried about family in times of crisis.

Maybe we should put a cap on travel for Presidents? Or do you think it might be an exciting interlude, if a President's kid were Kidnapper.

All joking aside. This is great. It shows just what priorities the media have. Badmouthing is their present raison d'étre. Cool.
