Facebook is a vile cesspool of manipulated content and political propaganda.

What should have been an interesting little site to keep friends and acquaintances connected, has turned into another alt-left propaganda spreader, only using it's original intent as a means of paying the bills.

I keep hearing how conservatives aren't racist, but recently you all are doing a great job convincing me otherwise.

Trump coins the term alt-left and a week later it is a (as yet undefined), standard slur of the whatever.

I'm not sure it's a good idea to expose levels of bigotry so extreme it causes colossal leaps such as this one you have just made.

It might be best to hide that type of bias and hatred.

I remember a couple of years ago when Black students were protesting the shootings by the police with protests at some colleges campuses, and that they were almost all peaceful, and the students were exercising their freedom of speech. But the Republicans here heads exploded, they wanted the students arrested and thrown out of school. No freedom of speech for them, right?

So it is disheartening for me to see how many Republicans here are willing and unashamedly defending NAZIS(Nazis for God's sake) 'free speech'. After Obama was elected I was surprised how much racism still existed in the US.. After this past week, I see that it is deeper and more widespread than I even imagined.

Disgusting.

Allowing someone to express an idea, especially a "bad" one, is not "standing with" that idea it is simply letting a moron (or bigot) be a moron (or bigot). What "it's all about" is giving a private company (Facebook in this case) the right to discriminate as they see fit. It appears that so long as those that they choose to discriminate against are not a protected group then that discrimination is completely legal.
 
I dont really care if Zuckerburg wants to censor his site or not. I get the idea of making facebook a safezone from nazis but the logic of it fails for me.

Im glad they do not censor Isis videos. The more people who see what they are about the better and I feel the same way about nazis. Hiding their ugliness does not harm them. It helps them.

Don't often agree with you but do here. What is great about the influence of the constitution and the ACLU's defense of it is that people mistakenly believe that free speech applies to businesses. In some cases it does, but mostly not.

So apparently it's as useless as alt-right. Trying to lump a bunch of groups together under one term is just lazy. If you are talking about liberals, communists, socialists, conservatives, white nationalists, whatever, say so. Just because they may share an ideal or some ideals, does not make them the same. Not by a long shot in some cases.

This was a country that once banned marriage for people of different races and entire neighborhoods were built under arbitrary covenants in order to prevent racial minority's from moving in.

I haven't seen vary many cons here saying the Nazis were wrong. Mostly they have rushed to defend them, as in this thread.

I didn't perceive this thread that way. I read that many of us were protecting their right to free speech...and condemning those who would try to suppress that right.

Soldiers have fought and died for our right to free speech and others. The least some of us can do is defend that right on a message board...

The First Amendment says the government can't crack down on you. Facebook is not the government. Anybody has the right to say what they want, but no business is compelled to give them a megaphone.

People who have permits and assemble legally to demonstrate have the right to free speech. If that right ever goes away, our republic is doomed.
