"DEFENDERS of President Donald Trump offer two arguments in his favour—that he is a businessman who will curb the excesses of the state; and that he will help America stand tall again by demolishing the politically correct taboos of left-leaning, establishment elites. From the start, these arguments looked like wishful thinking. After Mr Trump’s press conference in New York on August 15th they lie in ruins."

Donald Trump is at best an incompetent buffoon, and at worse he is every bit as evil as liberals say he is. If you're still defending him or his presidency there's something seriously wrong with you.

Those who sent Trump with the orders "Try to fix it but if you cant burn it down" are likely at least a little satisfied.

Trump is the guy who said he thought being POTUS would be easier than his previous job. He was clearly way in over his head. I honestly don't think he ever expected to win.

You had me 'til buffoon.

No question in my mind. He never in a million YEARS expected to win. Sometimes I think it was just something to cross off his bucket list. Ha! Oh, God.

When you get a chance, please look at the success of public/private infrastructure projects in your neighboring Utah. I believe this to be the model of success west of the Mississippi River. This is where trump's Interior Secretary Zinke should be focused.

Sec'y Perry is at least competent in Energy. Pruitt is a flaming disaster at EPA. All 3 have to work in positive unison if they want to build the next generation of road and rail, since both have come of age due to their construction materials reaching their 50 or so year lifespan.

Heck, your I-90 is one of the last of the first generation of Eisenhower interstates to be finished. What are current needs of your WA ??

I certainly like The Economist and BBC, which I have been consuming for a very long time. Both have at times lent themselves to political bias. The FT and better US papers like IHT, WP or NYT were of equal quality and better at keeping editorial opinion and news separate. I would say that this is still the case with CNBC Europe and The Wall Street Journal are still first rate.

So you're saying he's just pure evil?

That was funny.

I could just do without all the name-calling. And absolutely NO offense meant. Frankly, that's one of the kinder names I've seen him called on this board. ;)

There comes a point where there is really nothing left to do. When you're making flawless argument that cannot be rationally refuted, and people still refute them the only thing you can really do at that point is say, "well you're an idiot" and move on.

The opinion of the PC crowd is noted and as usual will be discounted. To the PC crowd it is all about being liked and the perception that you truly care. It is the PC crowd that got us into the mess we have today due to spending IN THE NAME OF COMPASSION and it is going to be a non PC person to get us out of it, but make no mistake PC attitude is hard to get rid of but it has to happened as it is destroying us. The world doesn't respond to Political Correction, they take advantage of the weakness. Trump isn't allowing that to happen and it drives the PC crowd crazy

There are two things that really matter, the economy and national security. The hatred thrown at Trump ignores that reality and all the name calling in the world doesn't change that reality either. The PC crowd has and is going crazy, good riddance

If you include the overhaul of our several infrastructure needs with an eye to the rest of the century with the economy.

Utah, where I'll be in their northern mountains like the High Uintahs in a month or so, has a grasp on public/private ventures of this magnitude of which I speak ...

"The opinion of anyone with a shred of decency is noted and as usual will be discounted by Trump supporters. To those with a shred of decency it is all about actually having a conscience. It is those with a conscience that got us into the mess we have today due to spending because they actually have compassion and it is going to be an absolutely despicable human being to get us out of it, but make no mistake a conscience is hard to get rid of but it has to happen if despicable people are to get their way. Most people in the world are decent and have a conscience, Trump supporters see this as a weakness. Trump, who is an absolutely despicable human being, isn't allowing that to happen and it alarms anyone with even a shred of decency."

I fixed it for you.

Infrastructure has been ignored by the PC crowd for decades as money for infrastructure collected in EXCISE taxes raised were spent as part of the unified budget on everything but infrastructure. Now all of a sudden after decades of neglect Trump is demonized for his focus on better management of the budget. It will always be the economy and national security, not PC issues like removing part of our history in the form of Confederate statues and things like Affirmative action

As stated, you just showed your PC focus and ignorance and corrected nothing. Trump is correcting the problem and you don't like it. We have an almost 20 trillion dollar debt due to spending in the name of compassion and it is time for that and liberalism to die. Whether or not Trump is despicable is irrelevant to me as results matter a lot more than rhetoric.

Your hatred of Trump is blinding you to reality. Feel good/PC rhetoric may make you feel good but it doesn't change human behavior or solve social problems, tough love does

"Correcting the problem", I guess if the problem was that there wasn't enough instability in the Executive Branch, nor enough childish tweets, nor enough people revolving in and out of political appointments, nor enough endless controversy...then yes, he's certainly correcting those problems.

lol

Infrastructure has been ignored by the PC crowd

You didn't hear me once go partisan in my post to you. I read your whole post. I stopped quoting after PC crowd. What can I do to get you to leave out the partisanship and just discuss the issues, like I did with infrastructure?

I didn't preempt your attacks on the left and glad I didn't. It's on you now to respond in kind or I'll leave you alone until you can. If I didn't think you had something good to contribute, I wouldn't bother you ...

Which was the 1st congress last decade to NOT pass a 6-year infrastructure bill which used to be wildly popular and low-hanging fruit ???

This really belongs in the partisan section of the forum

I also don't think he expected to win. Not just because of the polls, but because, as soon as counting started, he announced that he was going to sue the state of Nevada.

I'm defending him. Is there something seriously wrong with me? He is our duly elected president. And until he actually breaks a law I will defend him.
