The startling results of a new study that asked white nationalists what they really believe

A psychology paper put out just last week by Patrick Forscher of the University of Arkansas and Nour Kteily of Northwestern University seeks to answer the question of just what, exactly, it is that the alt-right believes. What differentiates them from the average American?

Good read. Worthwhile comments or denials welcome, I guess.

My take: Nothing really new here except hard evidence supporting what we suspected. Racist trash = alt-Right

To add...

This:

The authors of this paper write that “blatant intergroup bias has by no means disappeared.” It’s something the events in Charlottesville revealed all too vividly last weekend.

...certainly proves that the claim that racism is dead, a thing of the past, or no longer a serious issue, is a lie.

Some of what the alt right believes is factual; some of it I'm skeptical of. I'd be interested in what their detractors think. Are white people less evolved (sic)?

As long as there are two different kinds of people on this earth, there will be racism. EVERYBODY thinks they are entitled in some way, shape, fashion, or form.

IMO, straight white men believing they are the oppressed victims of people they consider less evolved than them requires a rather strange psychological make-up. After all, if someone honestly feels more evolved than another, should they not be able to out perform these neanderthals, run circles around them, as it were? lol..it's almost like they know they are stupid. "Yeah those animals are less human than me, but they have me in a corner. I am so oppressed."

WTF?

I've had a similar discussion with those who think employers ought to be penalized for hiring undocumented foreigners. Part of my argument is that employers own the jobs they create and should be able to hire whomever they choose.

Instead, whites feel like they are owed the job because they are "legal Americans," NOT that they are the most qualified for the job. If they can produce better results for the same or less money, the employer would hire them.

For that reason, rather than to worry about human registration papers and building a wall around the U.S., I offered an alternative plan involving allowing employers to hire whomever they want and then giving substantial tax incentives to hire an all American workforce and take people off unemployment and welfare.

Hopefully your thread will draw those who think like the left's description of the alt-right to come out and have this kind of conversation.

Actually, the article stated that there were divisions and degrees of separation under the alt-Right label, some of whom are populists that don't espouse racism.

Way to not read your own link. LOL

For 8 years the Right told us that because we elected a Black man as Prez that racism no longer existed in the US.

Well this past week blew that nonsense all to hell. Looks like we may have even elected a racist this time.

Why so much attention for them? Sigh. If only we could let them die in th dark.

The crowd is not the sum of its parts.

I am a republican who did not vote for Trump (Or Hillary).

What is interesting to me is the effort to inflate the size and influence of these "alt-right" idiots.

Do you think a group of people who represent of tiny fraction of a percent of the population should get so much attention?

I think the idea was that the SYSTEM was not racist. Not that racism doesn't exist. These lunatics don't have real political power. And even the minuscule influence they have...has nothing to do with THEIR actions. But the actions of people who give them major network attention.

When the president is one of them...yes.

For 8 years many on the left said that any criticism of the policies and objectives of EX President Obama was due to racism.

So, who are the ones guilty of stirring up emotions on the issue?

Maybe once Trump resigns we can begin ignoring these clown again. But, until then, no way. They clearly have a low friend in high places.

Nope, I read many times that because of Obama racism no longer existed. And even if we believe your opinion, that because Obama was elected that meant the system was no longer racist, isn't true wither. There most certainly is still some systematic racism in this country.

Because of the events of last week, and the comments from the Nazis and the David Dukes and Donald Trumps on the Right it's obvious that much of the criticism of Obama and his Ape in Heels(sound familiar. it was used often while Obama was prez) wife was due to racism.

The alt-right is the most unhinged, bigoted, and conspiratorial aspect of American society.

Yeah. I agree. The wine about Mexicans taking "our" jobs rings hollow to me too. "If they are taking your job, maybe you should--like--gain a skill so that someone who barely speaks freaking English can't take your job."

Duh.

The only connection between Nazis, David Duke, and the President, is created in the highly gullible space between the ears of those struggling to think for themselves.

And the only people who don't see that connection are delusional and/or embarrassed that they voted for Trump and were conned. No one likes being conned, makes them look weak and vulnerable.

Since there is no connection, those suffering from delusion and subsequent embarrassment are simple to identify.

The accusations of racism were more about the whole "well I know his mother is american, and we have a birth certificate and a newspaper announcement saying he was born in Hawaii, but for reasons that I can't explain I think the black guy had to have been born in Kenya and hates america." I've never heard anyone say that any or all criticisms of the presidents policies are due to racism. If you were to search for claims like that I bet the only results you'd get are a smattering of a few hollywood morons or trolls. This is a claim that right wingers made up before Obama was even elected. "oh we can't criticize him or they call us racist!" It's just a bunch of horse crap.
