Nazis are Getting Destroyed in their Private Lives

I have no time for people won't defend the free speech of those they don't like.

Go take your hatred and bigotry elsewhere

It's not a free speech issue. Only the government has to respect your free speech rights. No one else does.

That said the idea that companies fire people for legal, but reprehensible speech, is deeply troubling. It's easy to justify with Nazis because they're just so hate-able and no one's going to lose sleep over a Nazi asshole who loses his job. But what happens when it's not a Nazi but some guy who holds a view that run counter to the majority? What happens if your deeply held views become out of fashion and you get fired for holding them?

(I'm not speaking to you specifically - making a general point).

You have the right to be a Nazi. I have the right to fire you for being a Nazi. I don't employ idiots

Agreed i dont have any issue with that. What I am taking issue with is those would seek out personal information of those they disagree with politically and then use that to attempt to destroy their life.

This is a culture of intimidation and blowback. We may legally have free speech, but de facto we don't. This is especially problematic when it comes to people who post anonymously (and don't encourage violence, I might add) and then get doxed. We need to preserve anonymity, and the Founding Fathers who used that anonymity when it came to making remarks on the Constitution also seemed to think so.

Remember to wear your bedsheets.

Keep your views to yourself then. You want to be judged....take them out in public.....and be judged

Actions have consequences.

Apparently you have confused the legal protections of the 1st amendment from the uncodified ideal of free speech.

You can't get any personal information on me that would be a problem. Nowadays if you are in public doing something you should expect everyone will find out. And then you will be judged

Authoritarianism from people who hold no authority
And forcible suppression without force

Public events are public

What's next, are these guys going to cry that poor Hitler had to kill himself in his bunker because the outside world was so terrible and dangerous to him?

do you support "at will" employment?

From the sounds of it you are self employed which protects you from a lot of this bull**** but for anyone who is not it's pretty easy to see a situation which your political beliefs could get you fired and I'm not talking only about extreme views like the nazis

do you support "at will" employment?

No, no one does that's why we have stuff like EEOC and unemployment to supplement all the issues that "at will" employment causes.

Look if I have an employee that is seen at a Nazi rally speaking about his beliefs I will not fire him for being a Nazi....I will fire him for being an idiot that brings bad PR to the company

Like I said I agree with that it's the issue of the 3rd parties doxxing and forcing you into that decision I disagree with.

Apparently you have confused the legal protections of the 1st amendment from the uncodified ideal of free speech.

Yeah it seems I did misread you. I agree fwiw - as I said I find it troubling that people get fired for private speech.

Yeah it seems I did misread you. I thought you were speaking about the 1A.

I agree fwiw - legal or not I find it troubling.

Can I fire a guy who I see on youtube publically bashing me and my company?

Yes I think most can see the danger there, just a few that still don't get it. This should be a slam dunk bipartisan issue.

Yes why wouldn't you be able to? That isn't even political speech which is the main issue here

It ain't private if I know about it. Its public

Only political speech must be protected? You are inconsistent

good to know. i'm not big on it, either. in my state they can fire me for any reason or for no reason at all. so, next question : do you think that the first amendment means that an employer shouldn't be able to fire an employee for publicly expressing a view that might significantly affect the business in a negative way?
