In an NPR-PBS NewsHour-Marist poll released Wednesday, 62 percent of respondents said statues honoring leaders of the Confederacy should remain as historical symbols.

Considering that 2/3 of the country wants confederate statues to remain in place, shouldn't we be labeling those who want them removed as 'extremists'?

Why do you think the media appears to be in the minority of extremists who want to demolish history? Do they have a radical agenda?

I think that, rather than history being demolished, it should be revealed. Washington, Jefferson, and who else were stunning hypocrites, racists from beginning to end. The US was founded on myriad lies. It wasn't a revolution for human rights, it was a group of people who saw a great opportunity to replace those stealing the wealth with themselves. But they had to invent this **** and bull story to get the gullible to follow them.

The US was founded thru terrorism and terrorist actions. It was founded on genocide. And the US hasn't slowed a bit since then.

So yes, leave the statues and provide an accurate portrayal of all these evil men.

We should be arresting these hooligans for vandalism, destruction of public property, give them thirty days in jail and demand restitution. Some of this destruction is being done by groups in broad daylight. Where are the cops?

I think the political left, i.e. Democrats, needs to take notice that the majority of the electorate aren't with them as far as this SJW nonsense of tearing down historical monuments and statues.

Of course, they didn't take notice as political control of so many, many states slipped from their fingers over the last 8 years, so there's no telling if they will or not. Put me down as one who thinks that they won't, and they'll lose even more political influence supporting such nonsense.

This is not how you grow your party's political influence.

I loved how suddenly approval polls are liked by Trump supporters.

Nice shout out to your boy, Cantwell!

They need to go, but they need to be removed via the political process, not vandalism.

I find it a tad bit hypocritical of people who enjoy the high standard of living we have here, yet they hate the men who made it all possible.

Against the wishes of 2/3 of the country, who want them to remain? Why do you feel entitled to violate the wishes of most Americans?

Yeah, aren't these the same cops who are repeatedly labeled as 'systemically racist'? We've seen police officers stand by now all around the country as crazy people are allowed to vandalize and assault people. Something is wrong here.

Because I have the same right to an opinion that Neo-Nazis do, Truth. You don't get to pick and choose which of us have that right and which ones don't.

Do you mean the racists, the purveyors of genocide, the terrorists? I find it amazing that folks are willing to sell their souls for a buck.

I don't hate the men at all, I hate what they were, lying hypocrites, purveyors of genocide, racists.

I don't blame the cops for that. I'm damned sure they're merely following orders. An atty who is representing 17 supposed innocents in a lawsuit against the police dept and governor said that the polic were ordered not to get involved unless they saw threat of imminent death. True? Don't know. I also don't know, and find hard to believe, if it's true as reported that there was only one arrest in the melee. That, supposedly was because someone threw a barricade at a police line.

You're so right. Something is very wrong.

That's like saying, 'I don't hate cheese, I just hate the way it tastes.'

Am I following you correctly. If Anytown USA votes and decides the Lee statue stays then it stays till such time as the citizens vote to remove it?

If so is it a local, state, or federal issue that the political process should be?

That's like saying, 'I don't hate cheese, I just hate the way it tastes.'

No, that's like saying, "Do you mean the racists, the purveyors of genocide, the terrorists? I find it amazing that folks are willing to sell their souls for a buck".

Our entire system is based on that. Look no further than Obama, who was elected as an 'alternative' to the greedy politicians that came before him. He was supposed to represent average Americans.

Now he sells 30 minute speeches for half a million dollars, more than the price of the average American's home.

Nobody wants to demolish history your post is a lie. The local city should vote and decide whether or not to remove the statue.
your thread is anti-American and anti-democracy.

Same reason why we got stuck with Trump, the worst president in the history of the United States, when it went against the majority that voted for Hillary.
Namely, the process by which a community removes such things has its own rules and constituency, that doesn't need to conform to some poorly worded poll.

But if 2/3 of the country wants the statues to remain in place, isn't it antidemocratic to for remove them because a loud minority wets their pants at the thought of a historic statue? Yes, yes it is.

Nope by your logic Clinton should be president.

Cheap. The EC serves a purpose, so that you crooked democrats can't manipulate the demographics of the country in order to win the white house. Although, you're working awfully hard at it.

What decision CAN a small town make when it's being bombarded by multi billion dollar corporations like CNN to remove a statue?

They cant put up a statue in their front lawn, or maybe a shrine in the spare room, buy some land to erect it there in the middle of town...what did you think their choices were in the U.S.?
