The Vulgar Manliness of Donald Trump

I'm only a little familiar with Seinfeld. My point about lying was first made (as far as we know) by Augustin of Hippo in the 4th century, and unless I miss my guess, Seinfeld isn't that old. Augustin's account has become the standard account of the criteria of lying.

You're missing my point. I imagine you were quite surprised that Trump became the Republican candidate, and then that he was elected President. I know I was. I know I'm also appalled at his conduct, and my impression now is that my worst fears about him are true. Fighting someone like this requires precision.

If you keep calling Trump a liar, you do nothing to help your cause. Trump is losing support of swing voters, but it's early in his presidency, and he can make that support back up (by, for example, goading North Korea into starting a war). His supporters believe he's much more honest than most politicians precisely because he tells you exactly what he thinks, and he won the Presidency arguably on exactly that trait. So if you want Trump to be a one term President, and you agitate for the same, you have to get his dynamic right.

I do get your point. And I will more than settle for a quarter of the nation believing that he is more honest than other politicians while the other 3/4 come to the conclusion that he is a liar.

Because, if he believes what he's saying, he's not lying. If we are going to fight what's going on, we have to accurately understand what's going on. You approach a liar differently from a person who has delusions due to extreme narcissism.

Being Taken out of context or misquoted by political enemies (Democrats & MSM) are not lies. That is 99% of "The list of Trump lies."

At worst he occasionally gets things wrong and sometimes he is a Hyperbolic Braggart, but he has never said anything on the level of "You can keep your Doctor." or "Benghazi was caused by a video."

"Vulgar Manliness" was my nickname in HS.

Can you elaborate a little on this? Give us an example of a Trump quote normally considered a lie by his opponents, that is actually only apparently so due to being taken out of context.

I'm not so sure...

Part of my point is that those figures are mutable. We may be about there right now. Six months from now may be another matter. As I remember it, everyone thought Trump was a joke until he won the primary, and then there was surely no way the "*****-grabber" could win the white house, but he did. It's pretty standard to call a politician you don't like a liar, because most of them are. But this is a different phenomenon altogether. If you misunderstand Trump, you cannot anticipate what tricks he may have up his sleeves.
