Chicago pastor: It’s time to take George Washington’s name off of public parks

These threads are childish. Wake me up when we see a real movement against George Washington and I, a Black man, will come to his defense.

Washington was man who lived in a world where slavery was normal. Lee lived in a word where the issue was hotly disputed. He took a side. The wrong side.

Imagine if Lee had not abandoned his position in the Union Army and instead led the union to victories over the Confederacy. That would deserve a statue.

Lincoln is a real hero because he stood up for freedom and took a bullet because of it.

No, they don't want confederate statues removed, so they compare them to statues of Washington. Are you being obtuse, or did you really not understand that?

They didn't want their statues removed, so they are attempting to smear Washington's character in a desperate attempt to gain a rhetorical advantage in defense of their precious statues.

No, they haven't. I read this morning more leftists are calling for the destruction of G. Washington statues including Mt. Rushmore. The typical leftist response to this is fairly standard, "Well, it's just one person's opinion." I'm not hearing other leftists standing up in defense, like we never hear throngs of "moderate muslims" denounce terrorist attacks. Where are they?

I'm seeing more articles asking the question that not a single leftist has the guts to answer: Where does it all end?

The left is being extremely selective on which statue/memorial/monument they want destroyed. They ought to start with their own party. If they were serious, which we know they are not. I would be ashamed to even be associated with the party of Jim Crow.

But neither Washington nor Lee, or Lincoln or you or me, had anything at all to say about when and where we were born. So that part of your post means nothing.

It's how we live our lives that matters, what we do in life. You correctly noted that Lincoln stood tall. The others at least tried to correct the social situation into which they were born.
