Idea for a Statue(s)

The Nazis protested because the confederate statues are being taken down ...

Ignore, what the Nazis say and don't act on reflex against things, they want. In this case it is stupid to remove a statement on our history, just because the Nazis want it and some acultural shnooks say they feel offended.

So then by your logic it's okay for northerners to come down and remove the Confederate heritage.

I don't believe that that was, what I argued. On the other hand, it might have been okay, when they were winning the war, if they wanted to destroy the population's cultural continuity and disorient it.

What's relevant is the Confederacy waged war on the United States. We don't need to put statues up to enemies they just look foolish and stupid

That has a fascist feel to it. Say it again.

I predicted months ago this would happen when Mayor Landrieu of New Orleans did this with confederate statues, much to the consternation of 'my side'.

Since my thinking on politics always zooms back to elections, I was roundly criticized for stating that DEMs would be hurt in Red states and districts they hope to challenge ...

Sounds like you're a southerner. Typical aversion to books.

Ok what ever you say, but it's the only way to settle this, take all the toys away and the kids will play just fine together. If you don't understand this is simplistic southern uneducated redneck fix.

let me help you with your education. the monuments were put up decades after the CW so the union armies were long gone. didnt know that did you?

I agree. The south has long fought the growing up thing.

I see more education is needed...

Definition of fascism

often capitalized : a political philosophy, movement, or regime (such as that of the Fascisti) that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition merriam webster

trust me when I tell you northerners are more than willing to tell confederate sympathizers what losers they are. No one wants to gloss history over you are just making crap up.

Exactly. They run, lie or hide from discussing the real history of the Confederacy.

Here lies Robert E Lee. Because of him, over 600,000 Americans died fighting each other to either preserve or end slavery.

Put it in a museum, write a book. We don't need to see statues of people fighting for white supremacy in state parks though.

I disagree. State parks where battles occurred? We should see monuments to the fallen. People died fighting for a cause...a cause they didn't fully understand. That is sad. If you want to whitewash history...please remember to whitewash the horrible things the North did.

This isn't asking to honor the cause of the confederacy or even try and claim the war was something other than a fight against 2 different styles of economy (slave based agrarianism vs industrial). This would be a recognition of one of the worst events in American history...and the destruction it wrought upon all of us.

Words should be chosen carefully for any monument of course. Some should be taken down.

I pointed out, maybe in this thread, that some of the same group protesting the statues are protesting artifacts in museums. The example I linked was Quantrels (sp) revolver in a Penn museum.

Which is the problem. The flags were not the end game. The statues will not be the end game. There will be no end game until every berm is bulldozed, the word Confederate is removed from every dictionary and text book. Every battlefield and museum is closed, And then it will be on to the next crisis.

your post is just extreme hysterical paranoia

What about we replace the statue of the Confederate general in the park with statues of the victims of the Silver Challenger?

Who's in favor?

Replace them with statues showing this:

All because of one guy you say......

WOW

So dispute my post. Facts would help your case,

You post a bunch of assertions with no facts and no information and expect people to swallow your crap ain't going to happen.

I did post my facts. I got a couple responses.

Can you back your play?

That's not a bad idea. When I was in Moscow after the collapse all the Lenins and Stalins were pushed together in a small corner of Gorky Park. I would have liked them more in their original positions, but the people were confused and wanted to obfuscate their heritage.

Most confederate monuments obfuscated history by not mentioning slavery at all and misleading people into thinking the Southern cause was noble.

No just saying stuff isn't facts you need to take a debate class

I reposted one article concerning Quantrell's sidearm. Post 44.

You got anything?

Go down South, talk to the locals. It will either be described as the War for State's Rights or straight up be called, "the War of Northern Aggression." No one, and I mean no one, born and raised down there admits it was a War to Preserve or Abolish slavery. No one.

That's stupid.

I'm southern.

I live in the south.

Was raised in the 3rd state to secede and the only one that did not fall to the union in battle.

The war was about slavery and economic differences. Agrarian southern slave based economy vs union industrialist free labor. Honestly...if isn't much different than what happened in other nations in terms of the sides. But that is another bag of cats that isn't about the war.

What I think you are referring to...was what the individuals believed at the time? That's is very different. Individuals do not always have the same motivation as the nation. In fact...they may believe something different as they may not know better. That is how propaganda works. ;)
