Kim hasn't back down yet. He's waiting to see if the US and South Korea go through with the planned exercise the week of the 20th of Aug. If he doesn't do anything after that, then I will definitely give praise to Trump on that one. However, there are reports of equipment activity used in the launch of an ICBM. Too early to tell right now.

Up 'till now I don't see any results different this year than in years past, except this year we've the nut in the White House yelling back at the nut in Pyongyang.

But if KJU chills, there might be something to say with Trump's tactic. Maybe. But KJU's still amassing nukes and delivery technology unabated, and that's the real problem Trump needs to address.

All this saber rattling is fluff & distraction from the real problem ...

60 nukes? Last I heard it was 4 + 10 or so missiles. Which may or may not be able to vaporize our West Coast.

I guess they have upped their nuke program.

I think you're at least 6 weeks behind.

NK probably has around 30 to 60 nuclear warheads, and has successfully tested ICBMs. It is very likely they've developed small warheads that can fit on those missiles.

It's a huge mistake to depict NK as incompetent in this field. They failed in some of their earlier tests, specifically because they were trying to build smaller warheads (which are more difficult to design and build). And failures are not always setbacks, as scientists and engineers often gain a great deal of useful information when something doesn't work as planned.

More to the point is that we know they have nukes, and can unquestionably use them to turn Seoul and Tokyo into radioactive slag heaps. So what does "push on" mean in this context? Trump's heated rhetoric, despite his staffers trying to undermine it, only serves to reinforce the NK regime's beliefs that the US wants regime change, and thus they have no incentive to end their nuclear weapons program. And it's too late to invade.

So what, exactly, do you think was accomplished here? How did last week's Tweets and bloviations result in any progress whatsoever?

No, I said he should do more. I advocated sending a carrier force to the Yellow Sea to try to draw fire and make the whole situation NATO-able. It's already a UN situation and the war is just under cease-fire.
You want to believe that Kim has been intimidated. I believe he's giggling. This ongoing pain in the world's butt isn't going away because Trump told him to.

Actually no. The leftists will not give DJT credit. If you recall, the moment DJT started talking tough to the NorKs, the left went bat **** crazy fearing DJT would cause WW3. Susan Rice and Max Water out there gunning for appeasement. Even here on DP, the left was siding with the fat leftist dictator. DJT is going to kill us all, he's nuts, etc. Remember, DJT was the insane one. Never mind the fact the fat leftist dictator had his own uncle executed by anti-aircraft artillery.
