Read this on FB, and I hope it is not true: "Apparently the father of a racist Charlottesville marcher has disowned his son. I can no more condone that than I can the many parents who disown their child for being LGBTQ. Decent parents don't disown their children over disagreements, period."

Dad, you can do much better.

I'm not so sure. We've disowned quite a few racist family members...at least, we no longer associate with them. Why would we? You can only hear so many N-word this and N-word that before you say, "You know what? If you can't stop saying racist crap, you are no longer welcome here."

Is there a link to maybe get more information?

See some context over this alleged FB quote

I think that is different. Aunts and uncles and cousins aren't the same as your own offspring.

I would never disown my children. There is a responsibility that goes with bringing another human into this world and that responsibility doesn't end on their 18th birthday. If my son became one of these people then I would do everything I could to bring him back around, even if I died of old age without succeeding. Doesn't mean I wouldn't live my own life. But that door is always open for my kids.

How sad it must be to find out your kid is one of these vile disgusting racists.

Look at all the mothers of criminals and how they say how good their children are and they just made a few bad choices.

Yeah. Children are certainly a different matter. I guess, especially, since a parent would sort of be responsible for who they turned out to be and all. But, at the same time, if your kid gets sucked into a cult of hate...you can't just let that go.

I'd probably be like, "You can come by anytime, but not if your going to spew all that KKK hate crap."

Apples and oranges.

He chose to be a racist. Racism is bad.

And it doesn't even mean that you excuse what they are doing or in any way condone it. But disowning sounds too much like abdicating parental responsibility. That responsibility may not exist legally after 18, but it damn sure exists morally till the day you die.

Alt-right seems to have the same draw for disillusioned young men as ISIS does.

....As always, should you or any of your force be caught or killed, the family will disavow any knowledge of your actions. Good luck. This tape will self-destruct in....

Sometimes and some things require that you separate yourself from your kids. Them getting caught up in drugs, alcohol, and hate would lead that list, IMO. That's not to say you do not love them or try to get them help. But, if the help is rejected, you simply have to walk away.
