According to the War Powers Resolution, the President must notify Congress within 48 hours of bombing and/or deploying troops to a region. And then Congress must approve the action, or the troops must withdraw within 60 days. These rules have resulted in Presidential conflicts with the law many times over. The power of war is supposed to be with Congress, not the President.
So, do you agree that the President should be able to bomb, whoever and whatever, for any reason? Or, do you think the President should have scrupulous "emergency" bombing powers. While the meat of the bombing and war decisions should be up to Congress?
So, do the stipulations of the War Powers Resolution violate the Constitution? Should the 48 hour notification and 60 day deadline essentially be moot, since the President shouldn't be out there acting like Rambo to begin with..
Not only that but, Trump has basically said he is going to bomb DPRK.. and now, he even said he's 'not ruling out' military action in Venezuela.
How is all this constitutional?
It seems like the Constitution was written to limit a president's authority to unilaterally wage war, lest we have a person like Trump in office.
