So, what's Paul Manafort's story?

I know he's connected to Viktor Yanokovych, former President of the Ukraine. He did a lot of lobbying in Ukraine and.. that's a big deal because he failed to disclose himself as a 'foreign lobbyist' to the state department? but, he never held public office, so what's the big deal?

please note that this thread is not about Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, or even Eric Holder.

Good luck with that one. ;)

So, what's Paul Manafort's story?

I know he was an advisor to previous presidential campaigns. He has no qualms about lobbying on behalf of dictators. Anyone who lobbies on behalf of dictators is scum.

He did a lot of lobbying in the Ukraine that he didn't disclose to the US government because the payments were likely illicit (stolen), and he didn't want the authorities to see it. There is also strong evidence he has been running a ponzi scheme through real estate deals with his son in law, in effort to help launder the money he received. Manafort also owed millions of dollars to Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska before he joined the Trump campaign.

Michael Flynn is a similar story. He lobbied around the world unregistered, making millions of dollars via Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Russia, etc. He lied on his SF-86 clearance forms, lied to the FBI about his conversations with the Russian ambassador, and tried to conceal his lobbying from the Pentagon too.

In sum: they could be charged with fraud, failing to register as a foreign agent, and perjury, etc.

I vaguely recall hearing something like his own daughter wants nothing to do with him because he's a lying, weaselng, sleazebag out for money and power.

And low and behold Trump now agrees with you. After being his campaign manager for months and "a good person" afterward , it appears that the FBI raid on his house has made him a pariah. Look what the Trump "mouthpiece" the National Inquirer has on its front page. How shocking and Trump had no idea what he was like I'm sure and of course we certainly cannot trust anything he says about him either.

Sounds like one tangled web. Could be a lot of circumstantial evidence leading up to nothing. But, that's why we have an investigation. This is an obvious point, but we have to remind everyone with Trump-o-vision on.

Flynn is in pretty hot water. I was just in the dark about Manafort. Other than hearing seedy anecdotes and nefarious insinuations.

So, how did Manafort get the job at the MAGA campaign, anyway?

There is something fraudulent going on, it's just a matter of whether it can be proven.

I know the FBI doesn't involve themselves in matters that are just about a few emails about looking for dirty on a political opponent, nor does a judge give warrants over that sort of thing. Whatever it is, it's very serious, and my guess is it's some kind of fraud.

But, does it connect to Trump? Since Trump fired Manafort last August, Trump may have either been trying to save himself, or, he may have legitimately not known the Manafort was dirty, and having found out, severed all ties.

How did Manafort get the job in the first place?

Manafort used to run a consulting firm with Roger Stone, so my guess is he helped bring him in.

It's hard to believe Trump surrounded himself with Manafort, Flynn, Page, Gordon, Tillerson, Ross, and gang, yet knew nothing about any of their backgrounds.

Again, these people are all opportunists. Whether it's Russia, China, Turkey, Argentina, Ukraine, Saudi Arabia, the Philippines, or Qatar, if a foreign nation offers them financial incentives for selling one country out for another, they take the money - no questions asked.

They'll sell their own children if the price is right.

Yeah, I'd say your characterization of them is pretty accurate.

Carter Page seems pretty confident that he didn't do anything wrong or illegal. Chris Hayes interviewed him and Page gave somewhat straight answers, if I recall. Not that Hayes asks tough questions. Page does own an energy investment company that stands to make an assload of money from deals with a Rosneft partnership, from what I remember.

Roger Stone is a raving misogynist. And I'm pretty sure Stone knew about the Podesta emails before they were dumped. He knew they were coming somehow, because he tweeted about it before they were published.

Anyway, the GOP narrative has already transformed into, "So what, collusion's not a crime, you lost libs, get over it."

Still the sheer amount of people with backgrounds in Russia points to someone directing Trump outside of neocons and the beltway.

If the Enquirer is turning on Manfort, that suggests Manafort may be ready to talk. The National Enquirer owner is a Trump ally. They helped him secure the uneducated voters.

Team Trump will try to discredit Manafort.

Ah, so this discussion is not to be put in any kind of meaningful context. That's telling.

Still the sheer amount of people with backgrounds in Russia points to someone directing Trump outside of neocons and the beltway.

The amount of people that supposedly have backgrounds with Russia just points to the leftist, journalist monomania we have on the subject at present.

I'm waiting for leaks from inside the Mueller investigation. So far we have no clue as to why Manafort is being targeted, but feel free to speculate away.

Not sure but apparently Mueller seems to think something's up with the man with the early morning raid of his home.

I actually don't believe there will be any leaks. Why? It's a tight ship and there isn't the dissent you see with Trump's circle. I believe the reason for the leaks around Trump is the poor morale and lack of respect they have for their president.

That comment makes no sense.

What does make sense is that "the sheer amount of people with backgrounds in Russia points to someone directing Trump outside of neocons and the beltway."

Ah, so this discussion is not to be put in any kind of meaningful context. That's telling.

But, Hillary. And but, Obama, is puerile distraction.

How's this for context, during the Ken Starr investigation Bill Clinton was impeached for a blowjob when the investigation began about a land deal in Arkansas.

I vaguely recall hearing something like his own daughter wants nothing to do with him because he's a lying, weaselng, sleazebag out for money and power.

Wouldn't surprise me in the least.
