Bad news for Democrats in 2018

It's not just the Democrats trying to get their guys elected.

You mean Republicans are going to try too? Wow, what an unusual election coming up:lamo

Not really.

We saw Republicans trying to get Hillary elected last year. Things haven't changed for the NeverTrumpers.

Dems. are going to continue to push the mantra of negativity and just as in the last election, it will cost them. People are tired of listening to the rampant negativity of the left and are looking for a more positive message. The Dems. ran on a message of such negativity in the last election that people pulled back from them. Comments like Clinton's "deplorables" pushed a lot of moderates away from the Dems. and now we're seeing the Dems. doubling down on the negativity. People are looking for a message of hope and a brighter future and all the Dems have to offer is more negativity and "doom and gloom". I hope that the Reps. take a strong hold of this idea of pushing for a better tomorrow. If they do, this mid-term will be a serious win for the Reps.

If anything I think it's the Trump wing trying to get Democrats elected next year. Trying to replace consistent conservatives like Flake and about as conservative a voice as you can get in Nevada like Heller with unelectable candidates like Kelli Ward and Danny Tarkanian. Just because they sometimes criticize Trump, even as they consistently still vote conservatively.

The new GOP INTRAparty war that's broken out between trump and McConnell isn't helping either .

Try listening to the negative comments from McConnell to trump on Monday and those from trump to McConnell today. DEMs are just :popcorn: ;

In an era where ticket splitting in federal races has declined to almost non-existence, the Democrats have almost no chance in 2018. Especially when Texas or Tennessee is the key to 51.

I live in Tennessee and I can say we're pretty moderate with Haslem. He is pro education and healthcare. We're the only state to offer free community college to everyone. I know the left loves to paint the right in a terrible manner, but we're more progressive than a lot of states.

I don't doubt any of that. Governors are often less left or right than the typical member of whichever party they belong to. I don't think it makes Tennessee any more likely to elect a Democrat to a federal office though.

Its definitely possible for democrats to be elected here. We've swung before.

You haven't elected a Dem senator since 1988. Federal offices rarely swing anymore

Sorry but finding a couple of examples like yours does not negate my theory. We have heard an unending litany of negativity from the Left for quite some time now and IMO, it is what cost them this last election (both the WH and Congress and multiple state offices). People are tired of the doom and gloom message of the left and it's "attack dog" approach. Clinton's "deplorables" comment was the final straw for a lot of people and showed the electorate that there was huge problem on the Left with pushing a message of negativity. The people are tired of campaigns that are so overwhelmingly negative that any positive message gets lost in the noise. When Pres. Trump ran, he had his negative comments, but his message was mostly positive. He talked of better times ahead, of building up America, of having a better future. Clinton ran a campaign that was based on "Attack, attack, attack!!", "Push the negative perspective as often as possible." Instead of pushing the message of "Here's what we can do together!", her message was strongly "Here's what's wrong with the opposition."
