Google engineer who said tech women are inferior is fired – but already has job offer

Re: Google engineer who said tech women are inferior is fired – but already has job o

Google manifesto guy James Damore fired but has job offer from Julian Assange | Miami Herald

A few things:

1. California labor laws state it is illegal to discriminate based on employees' political activities or beliefs.

2. Federal laws state it is illegal to punish an employee for communicating with other employees about improving work conditions.

3. James Damore is challenging Google's policy which he feels are discriminatory. It is also illegal for an employer to file an employee for this reason.

Google was wrong here. As for Damore's manifesto, he has a right to say those things and in all honestly, many of things he said I believe.
1. Political activity or belief has to deal with politics. Does his manefesto even mention anything about party or politics in the formal sense?

2. I'm certain if you looked up precedents that only refers to certain items more towards the physical conditions. Ideology is not protected in terms of better working conditions. There is no right for me to standup, argue, and disrupt the work place that we would have better working conditions if we just not hire blacks, everyone got a $40K raise, and a new car.

3. It doesn't bode well when he blasted an document airing such grievences using company property to colleagues rather than proper channels. As I understand he did approach his grievences through a more proper channel, so this maybe construed as insubordination because he did not like the result of his initial complaint.

In short you are asking for government to regulate private business and protect all idiologies as a protected class. Careful what you wish for.

Absolutley not. The idea that google can lecture their employees about gender discrimination is like FOXNEWS punishing their employees for the same offense.

The problem is within the culture of these companies, not the employees.

I will assume, then, that you simply didn't know Google had changed CEOs and just ignorantly accused the current one of being a "serial womanizer" when you meant the former.

Google fired an employee for creating a hostile work environment.

Actually I did know, so I having nothing to apologize for. The ex-CEO who is now the chairman vs the new CEO? Who cares? If we were talking about Microsoft and I had confused Satya Nadella with Steve Ballmer or Bill Gates, does it really make a difference?

Eric Schmidt probably has more power than the current CEO anyway. Give me a break Kobie.

Re: Google engineer who said tech women are inferior is fired – but already has job o

Stating the FACT that there are biological differences is not in any way calling women inferior, especially when he described instances where women's strengths could be utilized in engineering and that there is overlap.

But you don't care about addressing his actual arguments, you've got a straw man and you're gonna run with him.

Your, and leftist 'news' media's, spin on it isn't.

He literally listed "biological differences" at the top of the "explanations for the gender gap in tech" section.

Do you deny that?

Google fired an employee for creating a hostile work environment.

Absolute bull****, clearly you've not read the memo. Hostile to who and how?

What he did was point out a hostile work environment towards diversity in ideas, and they proved his point.

What the hell are you talking about? That's exactly what it means. He's claiming that the gender gap in tech has biological causes: that the reason women don't perform as well is inherent to who they are as women.

Re: Google engineer who said tech women are inferior is fired – but already has job o

The reaction of the women at Google proved him right.

Men would not have stayed home because they felt threatened.

I don't understand your point. Why would men have not stayed home?

In China, 40% of the engineers are female. In the US, 20% of the engineers are female. That's not a biological difference, that's a sociological difference.

You don't understand that men would not have felt threatened by something like this and would have come to work?

Do you think that confidence is guaranteed to be entirely intrinsic, entirely explained by biological differences, or do you think that society might help to reinforce stereotypes that could influence that confidence?

Re: Google engineer who said tech women are inferior is fired – but already has job o

The company claims to have open discussions of this type, internally, that it's part of their culture.
This was communicated internally, but released by someone else to the media.

Google fired him for, "perpetuating gender stereotypes."
Which he did not, but merely cited true information in an attempt to help women work for google.

A lot of women complained that they weird and uncomfortable working around. That is understandable. That also errodes teamwork at the company.

Re: Google engineer who said tech women are inferior is fired – but already has job o

He did not cast women as inferiors.
That is your hyperbolic dream theater.

And that is your dream theater.

Re: Google engineer who said tech women are inferior is fired – but already has job o

Like it or no, companies retain the right to dismiss employees for actions that create bad PR. Sorry some of us live in the real world and can comprehend this.

Care to provide any evidence whatsoever that Sundar Pichai is a "serial womanizer," or is that just something else you wove out of whole cloth?

Bucky appears to be a Trump supporter, so it would seem he has no problem ***** grabbing and womanizing.

Why am I not surprised that you would side with the misogynist in this matter?

What the hell are you talking about? That's exactly what it means. He's claiming that the gender gap in tech has biological causes:

His "claim" is well supported by science: https://archive.is/VlNfl

Not that you'll read it.

You insist on denying science because the very idea that differences in outcome aren't due to discrimination would implode your entire worldview. They're due to women's choices, that is not inferiority.

that the reason women don't perform as well is inherent to who they are as women.

WRONG! Fewer women in a field bringing down the average does not mean women don't perform as well.

I swear its like you ignore the parts where he addresses women's strengths. Oh yeah, i forgot, you never even read it.

How is he a misogynist? Or are you going to do as you usually do and never address actual arguments but instead baselessly namecall?

lol...read what I wrote again. I am calling the google employee who wrote a memo disparaging women a misogynist. Are you asking me why?

Re: Google engineer who said tech women are inferior is fired – but already has job o

A lot of women complained that they weird and uncomfortable working around. That is understandable. That also errodes teamwork at the company.

So you're saying he was right and their complaints validated what he wrote?

And that is your dream theater.

Prove it.

Re: Google engineer who said tech women are inferior is fired – but already has job o

The second I see the word "leftist" show up in one of your posts, your chance of being wrong hits approximately 100 percent.

The guy's manifesto is printed in full, and you're dismissing it as "leftist."

Actually, I'm dismissing the leftist 'news' media's portrayal of it, and there are others who assess it the same.

Titled Google's Ideological Echo Chamber, Mr. Damore called out the current PC culture, saying the gender gap in Google's diversity was not due to discrimination, but inherent differences in what men and women find interesting. Danielle Brown, Google's newly appointed vice-president for diversity, integrity and governance, accused the memo of advancing "incorrect assumptions about gender," and Mr. Damore confirmed last night he was fired for "perpetuating gender stereotypes."

Despite how it's been portrayed, the memo was fair and factually accurate. Scientific studies have confirmed sex differences in the brain that lead to differences in our interests and behaviour.
https://beta.theglobeandmail.com/op...or-anti-diversity-its-science/article35903359

Yes, there are women who excel at technology, engineering and leadership, and in fact trounce some men at those things. Just as there are some men who do the same to women.

Looking at the distribution of these skills, talents and abilities, the underlying statistics would appear to bear out that those traits are more frequently the case that more men excel at those things than women. It's not sexist. It's science. It's the results of the population studies.

Just as it is science fact that prenatally men and women's brains develop differently in utero due to the influence of the sex hormones released from the fetal sex organs.

So who's the not the party of science when it's not PC and not willing to accept these scientific facts and want to stand on the argument that there are no differences between the sexes? i.e. the Ideological Echo Chamber, that which leftists seem to excel at, denying and suppressing any opinions that differ from theirs.

That's incredible. Just because some women feel uncomfortable working around a guy for writing that memo, you think it proves women are biologically inferior at engineering than men.

To me, that guy, and men who agree with his memo, have to be incredibly insecure. He is frankly looking for reasons why he is better at his job (biologically) as opposed to his actual performance. Some men obviously feel threatened by seeing a woman do something they pride themselves as "a man" on. If he were a super star engineer, especially way above the women he made feel uncomfortable, he probably wouldn't have gotten fired. People who are top performers are harder to pick off for little reason.
