As stunning as that sounds, fresh evidence arrives every day of the government treating the man elected to lead it as someone talking mostly to himself.

On Tuesday alone, the commandant of the Coast Guard announced he will "not break faith" with transgender service members despite Trump's statement that they could no longer serve. Fellow Republicans in the Senate moved ahead with other business despite the president's insistence that they return to repealing Obamacare. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said, "we certainly don't blame the Chinese" for North Korea's nuclear program after Trump claimed, "China could easily solve this problem." And Vice President Mike Pence said the president and Congress speak in a "unified voice" on a bipartisan Russia sanctions bill Trump has signed, but not publicly embraced.

"What is most remarkable is the extent to which his senior officials act as if Trump were not the chief executive," Jack Goldsmith, a top Justice Department official under President George W. Bush, wrote last weekend on lawfareblog.com.

Exactly, and I'll tell you what this means.

Right now Trump inherited a decent economy coming out of the Obama administration, and there has been no severe crisis like war, a huge terror attack, or some massive national emergency. So the country chugs on by virtue of it's current infrastructure, despite Trump. (though he is rapidly changing the infrastructure as much as he can)

But if we befall some killer severe event like those above, we're screwed! Leadership will be needed, and the agencies and departments know they can't trust Trump. So how does the response work? Does Congress take over? Do the Courts step in? I see chaos!

I don't want to find out what happens in that case. I believe we've got to get leadership in the White House pro-actively, for the sake of our nation. We're at strong unnecessary risk here, IMO.

I know, right? And you guys thought Bush flubbed Katrina...God save you if anything even close to that happens now. Cuz it sure won't be Trump.

BTW, I quickly edited my post to ask if Congress or the Court would intervene?

However, it might be possible a quick 25thA action is executed, and Pence gets installed.

So there may be a quick and immediate Constitutional remedy, here.

I'm not sure who invokes the 25th though, I suspect Congress, but it would be messy solution but hopefully not too time consuming. I suspect the military would have a lot of say, too.

God, this is starting to sound like the stuff of a Banana republic! :doh
