'Many Americans voted for Donald Trump because he vowed to end the foreign conflicts in which the US had become entangled. So far, they have been disappointed. But this week a light flashed at the end of the tunnel.
President Trump, according to numerous reliable Washington sources, has decided to end US arms supplies and logistics support to Syria’s jihadist rebels that have fuelled the bloody six-year conflict. Washington, and its allies Britain and France, have persistently denied arming Syria’s jihadist rebels fighting to bring down the Russian and Iranian-backed government of President Bashar Assad.'

Looks like Trump might be doing something right for a change.

The pathetic neocons must be pissed.

Can you prove that many Americans voted for Trump just because he said that he wanted to end the Syrian conflict?

90% of the voters probably place this about 20th on their list of proprieties or concerns.

Good decision. Thank you, President Trump. Please withdraw support from all other countries in the region too, especially Saudi Arabia and Isreal.

What are you asking me for....I did not write the piece...ask Eric Margolis (he did).

I don't care why his supporters voted for him.

I am just glad that Trump appears to be pulling out of that mess. That is why I highlighted ONLY that portion.

If it is true...kudos to Trump.

When we discontinued the obligations to South Vietnamese allies, we let the ones we left in a lurch into our country to save their lives.

Yes! It is better to let iran and Russia divide the region up immediately and give Assad back his people.

I have to admit I almost voted for him because of his statements on ending frivolous conflicts. For me it was the leading draw for him, especially given the alternative being Hillary. In the end though, I just couldn't do it and went 3rd party. I wouldn't be surprised if it was a larger % of people that bought into the "America First" rhetoric then you believe.

In my neck of the woods, Syria was of little concern among the hard core Trump voters. Their eyes would glaze over if you mentioned it to them.

They were all talking about:

1. Jobs

2. ACA

3. ANYONE but Hillary

4. Illegals

Not necessarily in that order.

That is what I liked about him as well...that, and his stance on the Fed (that it is MUCH too powerful and poorly run).

Unfortunately, he has backed completely away on the latter.

Maybe he is finally keeping his promise on the former...at least I hope so.

I hope he does follow through with ending our ME 'adventure' and bringing our troops home.

Killing Assad would be an apropos signature to the conflict.

Why especially Israel?

It was the number one reason that I voted for Trump while holding my nose. This can only highlight what a horrible candidate that Hillary was. What'll it Be? Turd sandwich or turd sandwich with mayo? The choice offerred to US Citizens/patriots/heart of the Nation. The NeoCon feedback and damage to the profits of the War Machine are going to create lots of MSM blowback against Trump.

Yep....

Let Russia & Iran wreck havoc for another 100 years in the region.

Nobody will have peace.

Let Russia deal with the Muslims extremists there for all I care, they are welcome to it.

Why especially Israel?

Because they have done nothing except make trouble for us. I have no idea why we keep supporting them.

Yep....

We're there right now- is there any peace?

Was there before we got there?

The question is, will we make any difference or not.

Its a guarantee that we wont. Heck, we created ISIS after we invaded Iraq so we just make things worse.

If we don't support Israel...there will be a major war in the Middle East. And odds are that Israel would kick the crap out of them sure...but Israel is also a good candidate to use nuclear weapons (if they have them) if things go sideways. If we don't support the other nations? We would likely see a drop in violence overall in the Middle East.

If the US can declare its sphere of influence in 1850 or whatever year the Monroe Doctrine was put forth, are other countries and governments allowed to do the same?

Yep....

There hasn't been peace there since the crusades. The ONLY reason the US decided to care was because of oil, post WWII. It became even more important when Nixon took us off of gold, and we needed their oil to back our currency, but that deals been off for...what, ten years now?

We need to just let that place be what it is....hell on earth.

Agreed.

It's a quagmire that America does not have even need any longer. She gets FAR more oil from Canada than Saudi Arabia now. And with her new fracking oil fields...she does not need the Middle East.
Why should Americans die in pointless wars that solve nothing?
If Russia wants to try and take the place - like America, U.S.S.R. and Britain tried and failed to before - have at it.

To me, the area is a political black hole - best left to it's own devices.
