Trump: End the syria war now

Let Russia deal with the Muslims extremists there for all I care, they are welcome to it.

Because they have done nothing except make trouble for us. I have no idea why we keep supporting them.

We're there right now- is there any peace?

You are right. Obama let that deteriorate into chaos.

Until the people who live there stop considering everyone who is not of their tribe, their sect, their specific brand of religion, less of a human being than they are, nothing will change. Whoever is in power currently will abuse those who are not. And then one day the roles will reverse and vengeance will be taken and so on and so on. It has played out this way for centuries and not just in the ME. It is being played out all over the world. Even by freakin Buddhists. And we seem to be heading that way too. So leave them alone until they figure out that their lives, their children's lives are going to hell until they change and no one can do that but them.
Hey, machetes on sale at harbour freight!

I support letting Saudi Arabia handle its own region on its own dime. Do i think that Trump will actually reduce US military involvement in Middle Eastern conflicts? Not really.

Edit to add : When discussing reduction of US involvement in Syria, we have to take Russia's desires into account. There could be backchannel stuff going on that we don't know about.

If the US can declare its sphere of influence in 1850 or whatever year the Monroe Doctrine was put forth, are other countries and governments allowed to do the same?

Of course. That is, what multipolarizatiin will increasingly bring. And eventually we will have war. And as it is Putin's declared aim to bring about a multipolar international structure instead of the multilateral one we were hoping to get to....

When we discontinued the obligations to South Vietnamese allies, we let the ones we left in a lurch into our country to save their lives.

We did. Are you implying that was bad?

Assad - do not pass go, do not collect $200. Head straight to the Palace of Justice in The Hague where he should be compelled to accept responsibility and face consequences for his crimes against humanity.

'Many Americans voted for Donald Trump because he vowed to end the foreign conflicts in which the US had become entangled. So far, they have been disappointed. But this week a light flashed at the end of the tunnel.
President Trump, according to numerous reliable Washington sources, has decided to end US arms supplies and logistics support to Syria’s jihadist rebels that have fuelled the bloody six-year conflict. Washington, and its allies Britain and France, have persistently denied arming Syria’s jihadist rebels fighting to bring down the Russian and Iranian-backed government of President Bashar Assad.'

Looks like Trump might be doing something right for a change.

The pathetic neocons must be pissed.

I'm sure putin demanded it of trump. gotta get their boy Assad back to stabilized position so he can kill all of the revolutionary allies the US had there.

So he should have invaded?

He should have made dure that the thing was stopped before it deteriorated to all out civil war. But he didn't put enough pressure on the free riders in Europe and wasn't willing to use the force required to take Assad out. Instead he drew red lines in the air.

So bad Obama for not getting involved, but hooray Trump for not getting involved?

I hope your thought process is better than it seems to be.

Fair enough, you think we should be supporting any countries in the region?

In my neck of the woods, Syria was of little concern among the hard core Trump voters. Their eyes would glaze over if you mentioned it to them.

They were all talking about:

1. Jobs

2. ACA

3. ANYONE but Hillary

4. Illegals

Not necessarily in that order.

I don't doubt it, immigration and anti-hillary/Democrat were easily the top 2 reasons among the people in my area. I'm just saying that there are a large # of people that are sick of the American war machine.

We were hoping to get to? LOL, you sure had me fooled. Judging by our actions, the realist way of doing things, we bring war and destruction. That's why there is an organization called KnowDrones. Former operators, morally injured.

???

Why should anyone be disappointed by Trump's actions regarding ISIS?

For sure, this latest decision concerning arms supplies is important, but it's not like he hasn't been doing anything in the meantime. Heck, ISIS is on their last legs...backed into their last remaining stronghold. Believe me, this hasn't happened because of Obama.

Could it be that people expected Trump to snap his fingers and it would be all over? Nah...I don't believe that. I think it's more likely this is just one of those ways people can complain about Trump.

ISIS? Other than his prejudicial travel ban, he has done virtually nothing about ISIS. In fact, getting in bed even more with Saudi Arabia strengthens ISIS if anything.

I think you are confused.

ISIS is the terrorist organization.

ISIL is the self-declared nation that held Mosul and is still active in Syria. And ISIL is NOT mostly made up of ISIS terrorists. It is mostly made up of paid mercenaries who are fighting for the money and little else. And ISIL is none of America's business as they offer ZERO threat to America as they have no navy or air force to strike at America.
Trump should have immediately stopped funding efforts in Syria the second he took office...as he (sort of) said he would.

Plus his air strikes against Assad were without ANY factual proof that Assad's forces launched the gas attack. And there was much evidence - including motive - for ISIL to have done it to goad America into fighting Assad. And it worked.
No offense, but anyone who thinks Assad did the gas attacks does not understand what is going on over there as it makes ZERO sense for Assad to have done it.

But I am not getting into yet another discussion about all this with someone.

But once again...ISIL is NOT ISIS. If you defeat ISIL, you DO NOT defeat ISIS...you defeat some ISIS terrorists and mostly a bunch of merc's.

We are done here.

Good day.

I agree with ending the push to overthrow assad and just focusing on isis, which is something not only does russia iran and syria have no issues with, it also does not destabilize the region further.

Fact is assad is the only thing keeping syria from being the biggest genocide since the holocaust, Syria has long been a place where religious and ethnic refugees have fled because the syrian govt's iron fist protects minorities and keeps tribal factions from fighting. Other than syria iran is the only other safe haven for minorities in the middle east in terms of major countrie, those two fall the sunni muslims would try and eradicate anyone not strict sunni.

Hey...lots of Democrats wanted to go into Syria as well but, yes, this would be one good thing he could do. Of course, that will just kick up the attacks on him even more as his previous stated position of non-intervention and improving relations with Russia is the reason he's been under attack this entire time to begin with.

There hasn't been peace there since the crusades. The ONLY reason the US decided to care was because of oil, post WWII. It became even more important when Nixon took us off of gold, and we needed their oil to back our currency, but that deals been off for...what, ten years now?

We need to just let that place be what it is....hell on earth.

There was not peace there before the crusades, they were invading eachother to spread islam, and even invaded europe which led to the forming of europe as a christian continent.

Since islam the only relatively peaceful time there was under the ottoman empire during it's peace, not counting the end when they went from being the epitome of religious tolerance to genocidal maniacs overnight.

Yeah, he should be supporting the brutal dictatorship which uses chemical weapons on its own people and created this entire mess in the first place via its own actions. Brilliant plan there
