Homeless in Hawaii

Hawaii's biggest problem, homelessness. Pretty good video discussing it below.

When is the left going to take notice that the the states and cities with the most homeless are Democratic? How can that be?

Why do you want homeless people to starve to death?

Who says they will?

Are they too helpless to work?

If so we need get them off the streets and into homeless mental hospital

I had a guy who was totally tweaked try to hustle me as I window shopped across from the beach. I didn't hear the word "tweak" for another 30 years, lol.

Glad you kicked that Sh*t, Bob, it's nasty. I'm a "legalize and regulate" guy, but there are a few drugs that give me pause. That's one of them.

Much agreed, life is much better without it. Legalizing meth is insane, a tweaker could come up with more rational ideas!

The "brilliant" idea of using Medicaid as a means to get (convert?) federal funding to support the local homeless population is likely to spread. Not much was said about how that worked but it sure sounded like fraud to me. If one can be "prescribed" a home then why not meals and utilities too?

I don't understand why you would put prescribed in quotes- don't you believe that food and shelter can influence health?

Many live in OTC dwellings and *gasp* can't even deduct their rent as a medical care cost. ;)

I realize that Medicaid pays for room and board in a nursing home but it is quite a stretch to say that a condo on Oahu is medically necessary simply because a jobless 30 year old bought a one way ticket there and can't afford the rent. Why not "prescribe" a trip to their parent's house or to a lower cost state?

That sounds like a matter of whether Medicaid should honor such a prescription, which i'll certainly accept as reasonable, rather than that a doctor is absurd for attempting to prescribe what they deem to have medical benefits for one of their patients.

They say welfare is pretty generous in hawaii

That acts as a magnet to deadbeats looking for free stuff
Do you consider those those with mental health and physical problems that are unable to work "deadbeats looking for free stuff"?

If one could get free rent on Oahu by quitting their job and moving to a tent for a while I think I might even try that. ;)

I've been going over there for over 30 years...and it is pretty bad over there. Mostly on Oahu, but I've seen lots of homeless on the beaches in Kauai and Hawaii.

I'm headed over there in about a month...I'll report, you'll decide.

Its not up to me

If people want to be free to blow their brains out with booze or drugs till they wind up on the street they should be equally free to go hungry once in a while if necessary

Under conservative leadership there would be fewer homeless because not so many would be lured into a life of certain misery by liberals who just want to help

You really don't think through what you're saying very much do you?

No, seriously: Why do you want homeless people to starve to death? Why do you find such joy in that proposition?

Lol!! I would advise against it, sounds like people are getting wise to the scam!

On the contrary you are the one so eaten up with liberal bull**** that you stopped thinking about the subjects long ago and just believe what you hear in the lib media

I don't WANT homeless people to starve

Why do you want them to become addicted to bad substances and live on the street?

That is really really profound.

Sure sounds to me like you want them to starve. I simply don't believe you, based on your posting history.

So why not take a look at the uber conservative states and see how they are doing with their drug use and homelessness. Why do you suppose they aren't drug free and homeless free? Is it because they are "so eaten up with liberal bull**** that you stopped thinking about the subjects long ago and just believe what you hear in the lib media"?

Wealth disparity at its finest. You are either upper middle class or your a practically destitute. The weather accomodates homelessness as well. Here in santa fe, we are at 7,000 feet elevation which means gentle summers. They flood here in the summer and in the winter a lot head to Phoenix and cali.

I was disheartened to see most of the displaced are native born, indigenous Hawaiians. Seems a shame that their homeland is being invaded by hotels and resorts, while they can't even get squatter's rights in a mangrove forest. Sometimes, my people make me sick.

Why are the least educated and poorest states in the country Conservative Republican Red states? Do tell.

I read that the average cost for a one bedroom apt. is $1800. a month. No wonder they have a problem.
