Actually, this is something that every President should do... in fact, it should be an annual tradition... it's just the height of ironic hypocrisy in this case.
 
I really like the idea. I just wish it was a sincere attempt to get people to buy American. It looks like it's just more PR to play up to his base.

"Mr. President. Are you saying that if I have two ties before me in the store, a Trump brand tie and another brand made in America, that you would prefer that I purchase the other brand?"

I wonder what his answer would be?

The main problem is getting people to pay more for a Made in America label. Everyone wants everyone else to do it.

There's a lot of truth to that.

I try, but I weigh my options, too. American still needs to be competitive in both quality and price and value. I'm generally willing to pay a small amount more, presuming quality is the same, but not a whole lot more.

Same goes for buying local vs national chains, too.

The cfo of a Munich multinational company one told me that they allowed spread double that of a German national bank to local Munich banks for a certain banking product. Of a foreign bank they required half the spread again. In other words a Munich bank had a two thirds advantage over an American or Japanese bank.

The trick is to buy your "Made in America" labels separately and attach them to your purchases at home. You can probably get a good bulk deal from China. ;)

The problem is people want to save money. We pay a living wage for products made here so they cost more. What other countries pay is ludicrous, but people ignore that. The almighty dollar is the conscience of America.
