Federal Anti-Poverty Programs Primarily Help the GOP's Base

Look if you wanna make that argument, fine I will concede your semantical point. Im not going to split hairs over it. The way I see it is yes that condition was uninsured so ACA helped that person get coverage they wanted that the insurance company did not offer. Im fine with your argument though, you win.

Thank you

Listening to talk radio today I heard an interesting proposal coming out of the left that I think I would support. Everyone is given a 13k check from the gov as means to pay for the basic necessities to live and in exchange all gov welfare programs are ended. That is a compromised postion that I think I could live with.

That's over $3 Trillion annually ...

I did not do the math but I will take your word for it. From what I understand the proposal has a number of big left icons supporting it like soros and zuckerburg. They want to offer everyone a living wage employed or not and do away with all welfare programsbecause they believe technology advances are going to leaving many unemployed. If the math works I think its a reasonable approach to a compromise between the left and the right.

I have not heard it personaly but supposedly Trump just announced that if congress does not want to get onboard with making the changes that he believes will fix obamacare he is content to do no nothing and leave it as it is. If ACA is working out so well why is the DNC criticizing Trump for announcing he will not change anything about it? Why fix it if it aint broke?

Wait, so now he wants Congress to get on board and "fix" Obamacare? Because before, nothing short of "repeal" was enough.

Awesome. But he's still a douchebag.

Again. Republicans don't want handouts. We want good jobs that support us with pay and benefits and retirement plans that protect us better than snap and al the other government crap. We don't want handouts.

Who is paying for all this?
We all are, just as we're all paying for everything else that helps maintain a civilized society. A few bucks of your hard earned money is going to feed an elderly woman in Oklahoma who otherwise may have to beg in the street. Pat yourself on the back.

Well its my understanding they can not actually repeal it but they can defund it which I guess is close to the same thing. I have yet to see his speech so I do not want to missrepresent him but its my understanding that if congress is not onboard with the current proposal being offered he is content to do nothing and let congress and specifically the dems live with what they gave the american people. From what I understand the dems are attacking trump for vowing not to change anything. calling him irresponsible and such. If Obamacare is working shouldnt they be celebrating trumps vow to do nothing?

That depends on if he means, "I won't do anything to dismantle or sabotage ...", or "I won't allow anything to be done to change anything, you must live with it EXACTLY as it is ...".

whats wrong with living with it exactly as it was passed. If its working than its working. what needs to be changed?

It's a 1,000+ page bill. We're bound to find some items to iron out over the next couple of years.

We are 6 years into it now. Im not saying there is not room for debate on improving it but i would think dems would be happy to live with it as is as opposed to repealing it. Its kinda funny they are criticizing trump for saying if they dont give him whst he wants he wont do anything to it. They had 6 years to tweak it.

The amount of rhetoric and partisanship that goes on is mind boggling. Make an effing decision. Are we going to keep it? Great, let's keep what has been working and get working on what isnt. Are we scuttling it? Great, get it the eff out so we can figure out how to deal with the 20 million people that will again be without insurance. Either way, the incessant bickering and pissing contests are played out. Grow up, both sides, shake hands and work together.

Did you have the same faux outrage against the right's so-called "death panels" of Obamacare?
