Meaningless namecalling

That's a little subjective...I always have a chuckle when I see snowflake references pointed at alt-right cry babies who need to have their diapers changed every time something offends them....hehe... Mostly I just love to see their hateful bile turned back on them. It feels good, like hot porridge on an autumn morning. Mmm..

uhm, ok..... did they set up safe spaces and cuddle zones? This is where your ilks co-opting fails. miserably.

Some of the names and phrases are pretty cool, you have to admit. "running on hippie farts" is one of my favorites, and I am a proud tree hugger.

You are right, although it was fun to call Trump an orange clown during the elections. Now it's Prez Trump.

I did mention a few times that he looked like an orange creamcicle, but I never called him an orange creamcicle.

Can we please add "sheeple" to the list? Instant loss of credibility when that gets used.

Oh...and let's just get ahead of, so we can skip entirely, the "nothing burger"... You may type "nothing burger", but all I read is "this post is written by a complete dumb ass fan boy and is not worth reading".

okay I have to ask... what is a nothing burger?

Every so often political name calling crosses line where it ceases to be effective or relevant. The current example is "snowflake". It's now being used by both sides so often and interchangeably that it has ceased to have any relevance or meaning at all. If you find yourself using the term "snowflake", know that you are tragically unhip and so 2016.

Liberals are the last ones to whine about name calling.

I believe the topic is over-used words.

You said political name-calling. I do tend to agree with you about the word racist, but talking about Russia is not name-calling.

Quick history.... at the election of trump. colleges had "cuddle zones" where one who had so much anxiety could go and cuddle with puppies in a safe space because they could not handle trump being elected. that launched the #snowflake tag to which many of these #triggered #snowflakes tried to turn it around on others. failing miserably.

I love puppies...I wish there were a cuddle zone at work.

I was thinking more of someone having a limited vocabulary.

As someone who has been called a bigot and racist pretty continuously, I confident I know the difference.

"Racist", and especially "bigot", have come to be a favorite verbal 'hammer'.

You might want to reflect on that...hehe... Unfortunately there are not a lot of alternatives to "racist" or "bigot" in the thesaurus. Sometimes simplicity is best, I guess...

It's more like taking a hit from a pool noodle at this point, seeing how much it is thrown around.

Back in Keith Olbermann's reign over the handful of people who watched him, the popular thing was to call anyone who disagrees with the left a "neocon" when 99.9% of the time the person saying it had no idea what the word meant.

Oh, sure. I even liked "snowflake" when it first came out and in it's original connotation.

Don't remember the one highlighted, though it is funny.

okay I have to ask... what is a nothing burger?

Van Jones called the Russia story a "nothingburger" a couple weeks ago. Now everyone is saying it. It just means it's nothing.

haha...ya, I had to look that up too. It's been getting a lot of play lately, and it's not a term we use too often up here. Basically, it's a dismissal phrase to invalidate a person or idea, using a fast food metaphor, making the user of the phrase look arrogant and low brow all at the same time. Not a good look, but one that seems to be getting more and more common....

I live in Minnesota & I hate snowflakes; I have to shovel those damn things all winter long ........

there's lots-O-liberals here 2; I don't shovel them

does that mean I dig snowflakes but not liberals?

****, I'm confused ........

I solved the confusion by moving to Seattle in 84

If anyone on this forum ever heard how my friends and I all talk to to each other, you would think we were the biggest racists on the planet.

It can be pretty colorful when you mix a bunch of sarcastic Filipino's, Blacks, and Whites together trying to be "one up" all the time.

The **** on this forum is Candyland in comparison.

thanks guys...I think I noticed the term in someone's signature a few days ago...since it was used as a signature quote I assumed it was not a good term to use but I hadn't looked it up yet...thanks for the description and the picture...

No, rather than handling their discomfort quietly in specific zones, they do their crying everywhere they go. Cuz, you know, all the zones are safe zones for them... :)

Also...another one to add to the list: ilk! I know it's meant as a diss, but it sounds too much like milk...so instantly, rather than being all offended and stuff, "don't cry over spilled ilk" comes to my mind, and I laugh. Speaking of "fails. miserably." hehe :)

I think a big difference is that this is a debate forum, not a bar... And that's not even to try to make it snooty or overly high brow or anything, it's just that you and your buddies know you're messing with each other, you can see body language, facial expressions, etc. Here all we have to communicate are our words, and a few emoticons... Sometimes the subtleties of humor and ribbing get lost.
