Donald Trump Jr. might have violated campaign finance law, experts say - Business Insider
People on the right keep saying that Trump Junior did not break a law, but he actually did. When he filled out the federal form for getting his security clearance, he failed to mention the meeting with the Russian who in his emails says is an agent of the Russian Government. Failure to provide that information violates the law, as stated on the form. He can be jailed for up to 5 years for such a violation.
He has also violated campaign laws as stated in the article above. Soliciting campaign contributions from a foreign government violates those laws. Contributions don't need to be just money, they include anything of worth including information.

want to hazard a guess whether he is actually charged with this?

Legal opinions are a dime a dozen.

So these "legal minds" think this might be a "case"...other's would disagree based on the facts so far presented.

Saying he definitely broke the law is just as silly as saying he definitely didn't. How about we let the investigation do its work?

I noticed that the link said "might" and wondered about the leap in the OP.

No offense. But leftists lately haven't been actually batting a 1000. My guess is, the left is probably guilty of collusion because they are always quick to point fingers when they are the guilty party.

It would not surprise me.

I'de settle for running the whole gang out of town. That is the way they would handle it in the old days.

you should lead the posse trying to do that. I'd suggest packing a lunch, its gonna be a long day.

That is because in America whether you have broken the law is determined by Judicial prosecution and a trial by jury. It is not that way in Russia, maybe that is why you are confused. We are not Russia yet.

I'll happily jump in with a legal opinion of what looks to me like a broken law, though who know's if he'll be charged?

1] Campaign laws prohibit a campaign from soliciting or accepting assistance from foreign individuals, agents, or governments.

2] Jr.received an email stating he would receive materials from the Russian government that would effect the election. He responded positively to the email, and physically went to the meeting.

That sure looks like conspiracy to commit a crime.

Any comments, anyone?

LOL I won't have to do anything. That is what makes America the greatest nation in the world. We are a nation of laws above ALL else.

I agree.

Though as brought-up above, no one seems to get charged with this form of perjury, though I'd like it if they did.

LOL And that is all you have to say? That the Dems did it too? Too funny.....and even if it was true it STILL would not excuse what Trump did.

so running the Trump administration out of town was just a little wet dream-not to be taken seriously? got it

So he's guilty? Prove it.

I'll wager this whole thing is just another nothing burger. The left has had a very good record in proving so lately.

Keep up the good work.

Why did lying junior release the emails ?

Why are you trumprotectors unwilling to let Mueller do his job ?

There's a reason for that. To prove perjury you also need to prove intent and when someone might have thousands of foreign contacts during the review period it's far from unreasonable for them to forget a few. Aside from that, if you set the precedent of doing a microscopic review of every SF-86 completed by every elected and appointed official it will eventually take until the next administration to get the elected administration cleared. Furthermore, if the Democrats go this route with Trump the Republicans will do it with the next Democrat or, possibly, the Obama administration. Eventually everyone will end up investigating everyone else and they'll all be in jail.

Prove it to who? According to Trump Sr. the American judiciary can't be trusted to make an honest judgement anyway.

Yeah, I could see that and already thought that through.

But then WTH is the point of law, if it's not followed?

Maybe if politics wasn't the playground of the wealthy and powerful, it would be easier to remember if one's meeting with foreign powers.

I'm sure I could accurately fill-out that form.

If you can show that someone intentionally left out information for the express purpose of gaining a security clearance you can prosecute them...SHOULD prosecute them. If the purpose of the check, however, is to gain political points against your opponent then that's a whole different story.

All this "gotcha" stuff is just a way to sell advertising on TV and for politicians to get their name in the headlines. It neither proves nor accomplishes much of anything.

I agree with this.

But what makes you think Jr., Flynn, Manaforte, Kushner, et al, did not intentionally omit these meetings. It would seem if it was important enough for the top 3 campaign officers to break-off their day, during an extremely critical time, it would be remembered. No?

I'm surprised at you, I thought you admired the "good ole days"?

Trump may wish this was all that could happen to him....
