Jewish Mom Feels the Wrath of Right Wing Terror

So? That's no reason to say "Jew this" or "Jew that," compete with oven references. I mean think about it. Would you condone calling BLM protesters N-ers and sending them nooses?

Of ****ing course I wouldn't condone that kind of crap. I already said she shouldn't have received death threats from those alt-right douchebags.

And I never said sending anti-Semetic hatemail to her was justified, either. That kind of behavior is inexcusable. I'm simply pointing out that she was the one threatening Mrs. Spencer to begin with, so I don't see her as some "innocent victim" in this case.

Agreed. She is an idiot. But, sometimes idiots win the lottery, especially when the people she trolled are bigger idiots.

she didn't win. she put herself and her family in possible danger. how is that winning? For what? nothing.

If the goal is to drive the Stormer or whatever that rag is out of business. Then she is on her way to winning.

My guess also is that in a town of 7,500 in the middle of flyover country, property listings are going to be hard to come by.

While I don’t agree with CNNs actions in relation to the Trump meme, there’s a world of difference between a news organisation reporting the name of someone involved in a story and a private website publishing all sorts of private contact details and explicitly instructing readers to troll the target.
Although I agree with most of what you said seeing as how the article is suspicious not necessarily wrong. I take pause at this statement. There is absolutely no difference if it was released by a news organization, a blog or a forum! There are very rare legitment circumstances to release information. Releasing information of someone who has expressed a desire to be anonymous or where no name is needed is due diligence. Famous people have to take precations all the time to protect themselves from public harassment when involved in controversy. Even public donor lists have been used for attacks. In this day and age we all have to be very careful with associating non famous people with controversy. News organizations do not get special rights to harass just becuase they have more legitment grounds to investigate than your average citizen.

If Gersh had done something wrong, especially if she’d done something criminal as has been alleged, that should have been taken up with the legal authorities.
I hate to break it to you, but I did read the article, and the extortion you claim is there......isn't. If Richard Spencer's mother had been "extorted" she would have said so. She very notably didn't.
Okay just to be clear she didn’t maybe do something wrong. She definitely did something wrong. Not some brazen wrong deserving of retaliation, but a very clear wrong. There is absolute zero reason she needed to ask the family member she doesn’t know about disavowing. That is an aggressive action. Protest is an aggressive action.

Second, there are many people in this country who do not trust the authorities and many more hesitate to use them. So not reporting is not in and of itself proof of anything. The question is a valid one, just very weak evidence for this being false claim. Do you know the headaches and costs of going to court? Does every little incident need to escalate? After all the mother is not who anyone is claiming doxed Ms Gorsh. She probabaly just wants this attention to go away.

If you don't denounce a white supremacist claim protestors will show up. Ooh, such "oppression".
Harassment is defined by repetitive and cohesive behaviour not the words chosen.

Bill collectors in and of themselves have legit grounds to call someone. That doesn’t mean obsessive bill collection activities or ones which ignore the debtor response can’t be a form of harassment.

If somebody in my family bombs a church, and I refuse to say anything even remotely condemning about that, then people have every right to call me out on that.
Richard spencer isn’t even a criminal. White supremacy is a ugly and repugnant idea that doesn’t mean it equivalent of bombing a church. Her business and her life is not involved with her son. Guilt by association is evil! She has no reason to have to disavow to a stranger.

Its reliving to see I am not isolated in my disgust at all sides or that this is some partisan issue

I wasn’t really highlighting the difference between a news organisation and a private website, I was highlighting the difference between simply giving the name of someone quoted in relation a news story and publishing a whole load of private contact details and direct instructions to troll and harass them and their family. Whatever the wrongs of CNN regarding the (alleged) meme creator, these two examples are entirely incomparable.

it's pretty clear to most that in recent times hate crimes, xenophobia, racism, homophobia, etc., have all been increasing at a rate that correlates with the campaign of Trump & Trump's presidency

obviously, there is a reason for this phenomena & anyone that is unwilling to recognize the cause (Trump) of it is just being disingenuous

people need to read first.

Yes, I did. But considering she basically threatened Mrs. Spencer, I find it very difficult to be sympathetic to her. She shouldn't have been harassed with death threats, but she also shouldn't have done what she did to Mrs. Spencer.

She and her little group pretty much instigated this whole thing.

it also makes it suspect if what she says has been happening is really happening. I'm not saying it's not, just that I know take it with the proverbial grain of salt.

You're right. She might not be telling the truth, but I think she's most likely exaggerated it to a degree. She's playing the professional victim card.

I disagree, instructing readers to troll is probably the least heinous thing you can do as its is down right begging authorities to hold you to account. Its basically protecting your friends or protecting the group by taking full responsibility for a collective actions you may yourself have not even undertaken as to be freed from guilt by the martyr complex.

I think we can all agree people troll when they make the choice to troll. It’s not a rational or normal behaviour in any context to provoke a stranger. It's an activity many find funny. People like to goat emotion and reactions. People like to feel morale superior in a good public shaming. They are not however ever incited by an instruction but rather an opportunity. We see it anywhere it is allowed. At a public stoning you don’t need to tell people to throw stones, you need only give them the opportunity.

CNN doxing someone is 1000x worse than a troll group harassing exactly because CNN knows there are trolls and has the ability to stop the crime. I think we can all agree troll groups are going to do this regardless of instruction as long as they think its morale and funny. Busting the patsy they choose to take the hit is feeding into the game. Publishers of any type should repect peoples privacy period.

We want this to stop we need to call out busy-body self-righteousness. Period. And be careful about who we associate with a controversy.

If the goal is to drive the Stormer or whatever that rag is out of business. Then she is on her way to winning.

no she isn't. they aren't going out of business. they have too many supporters.

My guess also is that in a town of 7,500 in the middle of flyover country, property listings are going to be hard to come by.

yep they are. this is an everyone knows everyone type of town and when one person pulls a stunt like that other people don't like it.
it brings too much attention to them, and in fly over country attention is a bad thing.

people just want to live their lives and be done with it.

I don't bother denouncing a white supremacist claim, nor a BLM more claim. Does that mean that I can expect protesters?

This woman, Gersh, took it upon herself to pick a fight with someone who had nothing to do with her problem. It backfired. Now she's pissed.

See what happens when you call everyone right of Hillary a right-winger? The term loses all meaning, when it can mean anyone from Ted Cruz to Hitler.

That's not a bad baseline.

That's not a bad baseline.

And there's the unsurprising, entirely predictable money shot that shows why political discussion is largely futile.
