Maher's Racist Tweet Sends Twitter Into A Frenzy

Eh, I still think he is funny sometimes, but I wouldn't take political advice from him.

But he doesn't say anything to be funny. He doesn't do stand up or anything else a comedian would do.

He is a political and religious commentator.

He can't hide behind the comedian label to excuse anything he says.

I think he engages in social satire, but frankly humor is subjective, what some people think is funny other people won't.

He is on HBO, he is not in Congress or on a news channel, he should not be held to the same standard as a serious political commentator or politican.

Al Fraken is a senator, his opinion now holds more weight now, then when he was on SNL.

So Trump can say anything such as "Mexicans aren't sending their best, they're sending rapists". He can tell a racist lies, such as Obama's not a U.S. citizen or that he witnessed thousands of Muslims cheering the fall of the twin towers and that's just hunky dory with you, he's still a great president.

But a comedian tells a JOKE and y'all lose your ****.

Right-wing nut double standards are very entertaining.

How does claiming obama isnt a us born citizen racist? You guys throw lables around way too loosely when its somebody you disagree with politically and the fact that your not as fast and loose with it when its someone from the left speaks to how sincere you really are.

The vast majority on the Right simply use stuff like this in the satirical sense. Very few actually care.

The OP wasn't being satirical.

Ok, I'll spell it out for you. The fact that a black man was elected scared the crap out of many right-wing racists. They took comfort in the myth that the "scary black man" was illegitimate. I'm very sincere. The fact you're in denial of this fact demonstrates your complicity in the right-wing myth.

I believe he most likely is. I doubt he truly cares if what Maher said was racist and more about the perceived double standard that should someone of the Right had made similar comments his show would have been cancelled.

He does stand up all the time. His schedule is posted on www.billmaher.com. Just because you don't find him funny doesn't mean Maher's not a comedian. Are you a stand-up comedian? What makes you an expert on whether someone is or isn't funny?

Why do you assume it is about race? Trying to cast doubts over the legitimacy of the other side is common partisan crap, it is no different then the tactics the Left is doing with Trump. If Cruz had won the Republican nomination do you not believe the Left would be raising hell about him not being born in the US?

You might be right.

See what I did there? I crack myself up. :rofl

Whoa, looks like I stuck a nerve!

No, I honestly don't believe that progressive folks would raise questions about Cruz's legitimacy, as none did about John McCain (he was born in Panama). Calling someone "illegitimate" because they might be foreign and therefore "scary" is a right-wing nut phenomenon.

Yes it looks like Maher has dates but what does he do on those dates?

He does not do stand up as we have come to know it.

He is a political commentator and a religious commentator, he is not a comedian anymore.

He does not do these dates to make people laugh, which is what a comedian does.

By the way, with as aggressive as you are on this subject, is he a personal friend of yours or something?

The difference is that Obama himself said he was born in Kenya, which didn'0t make any difference to his eligibility to be President as his mother was American, but it was good to prove if Obama was lying or not.

Yes, he and I are great friends <sarcasm>. Plenty of people laugh during Maher's stand up performances. Just because you don't find him funny doesn't mean that others can't find his jokes humorous. Humor is subjective and you aren't the final authority you claim to be.

Bull***. But thanks for playing.

Aren't conservatives always complaining about overt political correctness and saying it curbs free speech? If so, then you should not be demanding Maher be fired.

Really the guy is a comedian, not a political leader.

Is this a case of "be careful what you wish for"?

What you are missing here is that he doesn't do his shows to make people laugh.

They are an extensive of his HBO show which is to make people think.

What you're missing is that your claims are opinions. You have every right to state your opinion, others have a right to disagree. That's how a discussion works. Just because you have delusions of grandeur does not mean others are missing any points you're attempting to make.

What part is bull****?

Alright. Please provide an example of Barack Obama himself ever claiming he was born anywhere else but Hawaii. This would be Barack Obama speaking for himself, not others for him. You won't be able to because you're either a true believer, aka, "a birther" or you're full of poop.

Why is his comment considered racist?

Again, he is doing political satire, people through out time have done this, like Jonathan Swift.

Well, I cant speak to that. But back to Maher, I dont believe he is a racist, nor was his tweet. Racial, yes; racist, no. I have no problem with racial humor, in fact, I think we should have more of it. The idea that gays can only make fun of gays or blacks only make fun of blacks ets. only furthers racial divisions. Yes, Indians work in convenience stores, Asians work in nail salons and dry cleaners, Hispanics cut grass, blacks like fried chicken. So what? If there is a joke in there somewhere, let it fly. Laughing together, at one another unites us. It doesn't divide us.

Do you know why the fine folks from India have dots on their foreheads?

Stop making this personal.

Bill Maher is who he is. He stopped being a comedian a long time ago when it didn't work out for him.

He found his niche commenting on politics and religion and he stuck with that.

I doubt anybody goes to his show to be made to laugh.
