I like Bill Kristol's response to this:
When Trump resigns and tries to designate Ivanka as his successor, one can anticipate what his loyal lieges will say:
Mike Pence: "Once again, @POTUS has demonstrated leadership and sagacity. I look forward to loyally serving the new President Trump."
Kellyanne Conway: "Ignore the "concerns" of the Fake News Media. The people spoke on Nov. 8, 2016. Ivanka will be our legitimate leader."
Trump apologists far and wide: "Ivanka > Hillary. And the Supreme Court. Also Flight 93."
Other Trump interpreters: "We should take the Constitution seriously not literally. And Ivanka's in touch with white working class."
I know this is a joke. Constitutionally a president cannot resign and "appoint" a successor. Constitutionally, the next in line is the V.P. followed by the Speaker of the House. If Trump resigns, which I feel is possible, we'd be looking at a <gag cough> President Pence.
