According to a co-sponsor of the bill, Democrat Assemblywoman Sheila Oliver, the bill mirrors “The Talk” that many black parents have with their children, explaining the delicacies of dealing with the police in America.

“Look, I’m just trying to save lives,” said the Assemblywoman, a co-sponsor of the bill which passed in a 76-0 vote back in June.

A lead organizer of a local Black Lives Matter chapter, Alexis Miller, calls the politicians to block the bill when it reaches the Senate, saying it puts pressure on people rather the police to behave accordingly.

Seriously? You have a problem with teaching kids that "Hey, here's who the police are, and how to handle yourself around them?"

I'm just flabbergasted.

I can see both sides of the argument.

The police are out of control orcs who are incapable of dealing with routine human interactions. It would be nice to put the emphasis on the police but they are irredeemable and cannot ever be trained.

Putting the emphasis on the people is unfair but this at least give minorities a chance at survival.

they should pass a bill that teaches police how to interact with the civilian public, without shooting the Hell outta everyone .........

In my 65+years I have never been shot by a police officer. So much for "shooting the Hell outa everyone".

My thoughts it is a good idea in troubled areas for kids to here it from the parents and in school. I also believe that in troubled areas law enforcement personnel should have greater training in how to interact and deal with the public.

They don't "shoot the hell outta everyone". People like you perpetuate a lie for political gain and that is disgusting.

I've been advocating this for a long time. My father taught me what was expected of me during a police encounter. Some one needs to step in and explain the rules of the road to kids at risk.

police needlessly shoot & kill a lot of people so, stop lying ..........

So now it goes from "everyone" to "a lot" and you tell someone else to stop lying?

OK; a lot of everyone .......

it's still too many

The emphasis should be on the police to act professionally. It makes sense that you find training the police to be an irrational stance if you also believe police can never be trained to deal with with routine normal human interaction.

With all due respect, this line of thinking is part of the issue today. The preconception that all police officers are these power-hungry monsters just waiting for the oppurtunity to gun down the next black kid robbing a liqour store is asboloutely absurd. Let's look at some numbers.

Completely disregarding how many were killed because they attacked an officer, or for other such reasons, the number of people killed in interactions with police officers annually is around 1200.

These numbers come from the beloved Washington Post and the Guardian whom we all know are completely bi-partistan

Compared to the around 760,000 full-time officers that work throughout the country, I find it hard to believe all cops are blood-thirsty killers.

There is most definitely a problem, but acting like a narrow-minded drone and shreiking that all cops are murderers isn't going to solve it.

A lot of them deserve to be shot.

A minuscule amount are ever questionable by a court of law.

It would be nice if you didn't feel the need to exaggerate to the extreme.

NO, WE HAVE TO TRAIN THE CIVILIAN PUBLIC HOW TO INTERACT WITH POLICE
because police training has failed the police

that is a completely unacceptable number & no cop ever gets convicted of a crime, even with the very few prosecutions

the laws are slanted in favor of LE

Re: Black Lives Matter Trying To Stop Bill That Teaches Schoolchildren How To Deal Wi

Sometimes you get an officer having a bad day or an asshole, it happens. I get pulled over occasionally due to my excessive use of the skinny pedal on the right, I may have had one cop that was a total jerk but overall I have had few to no problems. Really, I just wait for them to issue a command, process said command, and follow that command. When speaking to officers I find that "Yes sir/maam" or other civil forms of conversation gets me much farther than "hey ****head/asshole/douchebag......" etc. Police are on edge right now because there is a temperature out there suggesting they are less likely to go home than only a few years ago, they are being put into a can't win situation by IMO very bad news coverage and political opportunists.

I put myself in their shoes, if it's you or me, it's going to be you if I can help it when a SHTF situation presents itself.
