Europeans learn to live with _ and adapt to _ terror attacks

Associated Press

Coming to America, is this what we want?

In the States we have far higher levels of violent maiming and killing than the numbers if terror victims in Europe. Also, we have been targets of terrirists in one country or manner or the other since planes were being kidnapped to Cuba. This in Europe is neither new nor is it particularly scary. It could become so, if Twin Tower events or frequency of smaller attacks explode. But as it is....

Really? How many terrorist attacks of such nature have happened in the U.S. over the same period?

Isn't the dearth of such attacks in the U.S. recently one of the points the pro-migration groups keep arguing?

We are not talking about normal crime rates due to drugs, gangs, etc. Neither are the European news reports.

Trying to conflate normal crime statistics with terrorist attacks is a bit disingenuous, don't you think? :coffeepap:

Terrorist attacks are a fact of life. You can't stop all of them short of turning half the populace in police officers and making the other half live in a police state.

We should do what we can to prevent those attacks that we can but whatever we do must strictly be governed not only by the Constitution but also by the fact that we are a free society and people have the right to actually move about freely and enjoy their lives.

People adapt to their surroundings, I mean look at America with mass shootings.

I believe he's trying to put the deaths due to terrorism in context. For the average citizen the risk of non-terrorism related violence is much higher than the risk of terrorism and the risk of crime violence is pretty much at an all time low.
Given that going overboard about terrorism in terms of money or curtailed liberty makes little sense to me. We should do what we reasonably can and expect that there will be some acts of terrorism but should otherwise just continue living our lives - in a hopefully free society.

Nope. I think that cost comparisons of different crime categories are not only good but necessary to put rationality into it. Of course the costs should be part of a benefit study before sinking money in prevention.
